Ekholm ruled out against Detroit while recovering from concussion

Mattias Ekholm will not suit up for tonight’s matchup against the Red Wings at Rogers Place as he remains sidelined with a concussion suffered last week. The veteran defenseman's fantasy start rate has plummeted from 68% down to 21% following the injury news. The Pacific-leading Oilers enter the contest as solid home favorites in a projected higher-scoring environment, likely facing John Gibson (unconfirmed) between the pipes for Detroit. Prior to his absence, Ekholm provided steady blue-line depth, posting one assist, four shots, and a plus-5 rating over his last six outings.

Because he has been officially ruled out, our daily projection holds zero statistical expectations for Ekholm tonight in points, shots, or blocked shots. Looking ahead across this week, Edmonton is scheduled for four games, but our weekly models project zero fantasy points until he is cleared to return from concussion protocol. Fantasy managers should keep him stashed in an injured reserve slot or firmly on the bench until Edmonton provides a positive update on his status. Today’s action: Bench.
