Hey folks. We're back with another fantasy hockey injury report, and there's plenty of important news for fantasy managers to keep an eye on as the NHL season continues during Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. Injuries are already creating some major lineup questions, while a highly-anticipated return could provide a timely boost for managers who have been waiting patiently.

One of the biggest concerns comes after a franchise defensemen left Monday's game and did not return, leaving his team and fantasy managers waiting for further updates. Elsewhere, a promising young forward exited his latest game with an upper-body injury, while a veteran scorer is facing an extended absence after undergoing surgery, and the only real defense-minded blue liner is back on IR for the Maple Leafs.

Thankfully, it's not all bad news. One of the league's brightest young stars is getting closer to making his season debut, potentially giving fantasy managers a major offensive boost as early-season lineups continue to take shape.

As always, we'll break down what these developments mean for your fantasy roster, which situations deserve the closest attention, and what you should be watching for next. Let's dive in.

Rasmus Dahlin - Buffalo Sabres

This is absolutely crippling news for Dahlin fantasy managers, as the Buffalo Sabres star left Monday's game against the Florida Panthers with an upper-body injury and did not return. The team has not yet provided further details on the injury or a potential recovery timeline, leaving fantasy managers anxiously waiting for an update. Losing one of the league's best defensemen this early in the season would be a massive blow for both the Sabres and managers who invested an early pick in him.

Dahlin has gotten off to a hot start this season, contributing on the score sheet while also providing value across the peripheral categories. He's the type of all-around fantasy contributor who is difficult to replace on the waiver wire, especially in leagues that reward shots, blocks and hits alongside offensive production. Depending on the severity of the injury, his absence could leave a significant hole in fantasy lineups.

Fantasy outlook: If Dahlin is going to miss any meaningful time, you need to replace that production immediately. My first suggestion would be Owen Power, who could see an uptick in deployment and take on more responsibility with Dahlin out of the lineup. Power isn't going to replace everything Dahlin brings to the table, but added minutes and a potential increase in offensive responsibility make him an appealing short-term pickup. Keep an eye on Buffalo's lineup and injury updates before making a longer-term decision.

Matt Duchene - Dallas Stars

This is both good and bad news for Duchene fantasy managers. The veteran forward hasn't laced up his skates for a game yet this season after beginning the year on injured reserve, so he's already been an IR stash for managers willing to wait for his return since draft day. Now, we finally have some clarity on what has been keeping him out, as Duchene underwent surgery to repair a core injury and is expected to miss approximately three months. The downside is that the timeline is longer than many managers would have hoped for, pushing his return well into the season.

Duchene was limited to 57 regular season games last year, putting up 16 goals and 29 assists before adding nine points in six playoff games. His absence is disappointing, especially for managers who have been holding a roster spot for him while waiting for an update. However, at least we now have a clearer picture of his recovery, which makes it easier to plan ahead rather than waiting in the dark.

Fantasy outlook: If you have Duchene stashed on IR, I'd continue holding him if you have the roster flexibility. Three months is a significant stretch to go without a player, but he can still offer value when he returns. The Stars have enough depth to remain competitive without him, so I wouldn't expect his absence to completely derail their season.

For fantasy managers, though, the decision comes down to roster space and how long you can afford to wait. If you're struggling with injuries of your own and need immediate production, moving on may be necessary. Otherwise, keep him stashed and reassess as his return gets closer.

Cutter Gauthier - Anaheim Ducks

Gauthier is the latest player fantasy managers will need to monitor after leaving Saturday's game against the Calgary Flames in the first period with an upper-body injury. Unfortunately, there hasn't been much information released about the injury itself, so we're left waiting for more details on what happened and whether it will cost him any additional time. He took part in some drills at Monday's practice before leaving ahead of line rushes and team drills, which offers a little encouragement but doesn't tell us much about his availability.

With the Ducks set to face Calgary again Tuesday, his participation in the morning skate should provide a better indication of whether he's ready to return. For now, Gauthier remains day-to-day, and there is no confirmed timetable for his return. Until more information becomes available, this is a situation where fantasy managers need to stay patient rather than jump to conclusions.

Fantasy outlook: I'm treating Gauthier as a firm hold for now. He's still listed as day-to-day, so there's no reason to rush into dropping him or using an injured reserve spot before we know whether this will become a longer-term issue. Keep monitoring updates ahead of Tuesday's game, and be prepared to make a move if his status changes. For now, this is a wait-and-see situation, and hopefully the Ducks provide some clarity soon.

Chris Tanev - Toronto Maple Leafs

This is a significant blow to the Maple Leafs' defensive core, as Tanev has been placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury after leaving Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche. Toronto will be without him for at least one week, with the veteran defensemen having been limited to just 11 games last season due to multiple injuries.

Tanev is arguably the best defensive defensemen on the roster, and considering the Leafs have already been shelled a couple of times this season, losing their most reliable defensive presence makes it even more difficult for them to simply outscore their opponents.

Fantasy outlook: This is a bigger concern for Toronto's ability to defend as a team than it is for Tanev's fantasy managers, who are likely few and far between outside of category leagues. His physical style of play and shot-blocking ability can provide value in the right format, but his limited offensive production makes him a fairly niche fantasy option.

The bigger concern is how the Leafs compensate for his absence, especially given their lack of reliable defensive options. They'll need other players to step up defensively, because continuing to rely on outscoring opponents could become a problem without Tanev anchoring the back end.

Connor Bedard - Chicago Blackhawks

The wait for Bedard's season debut could finally be coming to an end, and this is the kind of news fantasy managers have been waiting for since the offseason. The Chicago Blackhawks' cornerstone underwent left shoulder surgery in July and has been working his way back ever since.

After missing the start of the season, Bedard has now returned to full-contact practices and is closing in on the medical clearance he needs to get back into game action. While his return has not officially been confirmed, the expectation is that he could make his season debut this week, potentially as soon as Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Bedard is the franchise cornerstone Chicago hopes will lead its next great era, and the organization has made that clear by naming him captain and signing him to a five-year $15M AAV contract this summer. He's coming off a career-best 75-point campaign, including 30 goals, and remains one of the most exciting young offensive talents in the NHL.

The Blackhawks are still rebuilding, but Bedard's development is central to their long-term hopes of returning to contention. With Patrick Kane back in Chicago, we're finally approaching the chance to see these two talents play together. That's an exciting prospect for Blackhawks fans and fantasy managers alike, especially with Kane bringing his experience and playmaking ability alongside the young superstar.

Fantasy outlook: If you've been holding Bedard on IR, your patience could soon pay off. Also, my congratulations on getting a huge discount on his ADP for missing only a couple of weeks of the season! The biggest immediate storyline is the potential chemistry with Kane, as Bedard could give Chicago's offense a much-needed boost while creating exciting fantasy possibilities for both players.

I wouldn't expect Bedard to hit peak form immediately after missing so much time, but his upside is too significant to worry about a short adjustment period. Keep an eye on the team's morning skate and final medical clearance, but the signs are encouraging that we'll see him back in the lineup very soon.
