Popular Backs in Trending Decisions
Green Bay's MarShawn Lloyd, Philadelphia's Dameon Pierce and Houston's Woody Marks are three running backs who currently make up most of the trending decisions on the start/sit tool.
Lloyd has 11 and 12 touches over his past two games, so he's trending up a bit for the Packers, who have lacked a lead running back all season. Lloyd has 50 total touches on the season, going for 167 total yards and three scores.
He has yet to top 50 total yards in a game, but he scored twice last week and appears to be gaining trust on the Packers' offense. He also has a favorable Week 6 matchup against the Cowboys that fantasy owners are interested in possibly taking advantage of.
Between the good matchup and his uptick in production the past couple weeks, you can see why Lloyd is a popular RB within the start/sit tool.
Pierce is on the rise after the Eagles sustained a number of running back injuries. Pierce went from fourth on the depth chart to possibly starting this week - the only thing standing in his way is Saquon Barkley, who has yet to practice, so his chances of playing seem low.

Pierce played in his first game of the season last week. He got 11 rushing attempts and caught two passes across five targets. Pierce only managed 14 rushing yards, and he went backward two yards on his catches.
The appeal with Pierce this week is that he's in line to be RB1 on an Eagles' offense nursing a bevy of injuries, so he could get a heavy workload. He also has a very favorable matchup coming against the Panthers, so that's another reason why he's a good option for this week.
Depending on the status of Barkley, I see some appeal with Pierce, but with all the other injuries on the Philly offense, I still am not super high on the veteran back. He's more a flex-level option in standard leagues, which makes him a perfect player to discuss here.
Marks is the new RB1 in Houston with David Montgomery set to miss at least this week. He is coming off his best game of the season as well, so things are looking up for the second-year RB.
Marks had 19 touches for 85 total yards a week ago. He rushed 15 times for 62 yards and caught all four of his targets for 23 more yards. He has 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns across 43 carries in five games this season overall, plus 11 receptions for 54 yards across 13 targets.
Everything looks great for Marks, but he has a brutal matchup coming against the Jaguars in Week 6. On volume alone though, Marks could produce enough to deliver for fantasy owners.
He's another good flex-level option this week, and depending on your other options, Marks may or may not crack your starting lineup.
Other Backs to Consider
There are several other running backs who are part of trending decisions with the three main players we just discussed. We'll briefly discuss Arizona's Jeremiyah Love, New Orleans' Alvin Kamara, Los Angeles Rams' Blake Corum and Los Angeles Chargers' Omarion Hampton.
Love is dealing with an injury, which complicates his outlook for Week 6. He has the Rams, who are a slightly below-average test. In a game that doesn't favor the Cardinals or the running game, plus throwing in an injury, Love is a riskier starting option this week.
Kamara is another RB who is dealing with an injury as Week 6 approaches. The Giants are a slightly above-average matchup, but Kamara might not even be his team's RB1 anymore - that honor might belong to Kendre Miller. So there's a few risks involved with Kamara too.
Corum is his team's RB2, but he's at least on a good/great offense. The Cardinals are a slightly below-average test for him, but in a game the Rams should control, Corum could deliver big for fantasy owners.
Hampton's season hasn't gone very well so far - the same could be said about the Chargers overall. He faces the rested Chiefs in Week 6 - that's a below-average matchup. Hampton isn't a very confident fantasy play this week, but there is a little upside with him as his team's lead back.
Start/Sit Recommendations and Data
I just ranked my top-30 running backs for Week 6 yesterday, and several of the players we have discussed here got ranked in that article.
Pierce was the first one ranked of the bunch, coming in 17th. Lloyd was 22nd, while Marks was 23rd. Love appeared at No. 25, with Hampton at No. 26. Corum made the cut too at No. 29.
Kamara was not only not in my top 30, but it was his teammate Miller who made the cut at No. 27.
Pierce feels like the best bet to deliver for fantasy owners, as long as Barkley is out with his injury. His stellar matchup definitely helps matters.
Lloyd edges Marks, with the matchups playing a big role in the rankings there. Love, Hampton and Corum are all decent flex-level options this week, but are definitely better suited for starting in deeper leagues. I don't trust Kamara right now, so he's just a deep-league option in my eyes this week.
As for what fantasy owners are doing with these fantasy running backs this week, let's look at some data. Also, know that these numbers could change as injury statuses are announced later in the week.
Marks is a slight favorite over Lloyd this week, but both backs are starting on the same teams in 52.7% of the cases. Marks is a heavy favorite over Pierce, with both starting 37.74% of the time - that could change if Pierce ends up as RB1 in Philly this weekend.
Lloyd is a bit of a surprising favorite over Love, although the status of Love could change that eventually. Both RBs are starting together 38.37% of the time. Lloyd is heavily favored over Kamara, with both starting together 34.38% of the time.
Fantasy owners also prefer Lloyd big time over Corum, with both backs starting 18.31% of the time. Lloyd is a heavy favorite over Hampton as well, with fantasy owners starting both guys 22.89% of the time.
Love is preferred over Marks, even with an injury concern right now. Both backs are starting in 36.36% of leagues.
