Fantasy Football Week 6 TE Start, Sit: Outlooks for Kincaid, Ferguson, and More

Three tight ends to start and three to sit in Week 6 of the NFL season.

It sucks to have your best players out on their bye, but in the start/sit world, I get sadder about the potential target teams we miss out on. The Detroit Lions have their bye this week, and they are by far the worst defense against tight ends, allowing nearly 27 PPR points per game to the position. We will go after Detroit every week after this, but we must look elsewhere in Week 6.

Let's look at three tight ends to start and three to sit in Week 6 of the NFL season. Most stats are from NFL.com, and fantasy points and rankings are from FantasyPros.

Use FantasySP's start/sit tool to compare players and help make your toughest lineup decisions each week!

Start

Oronde Gadsden, Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

This is more of a low-level streaming option, but Gadsden has things in his favor. After a surprisingly strong rookie season from the fifth-round pick, Gadsden is averaging less than two catches and 20 yards per game through five weeks. The Chargers have been struggling overall, but it's a real disappointment from a guy who was a sneaky pick to really break out.

While the Chiefs have had a strong pass defense, they have been vulnerable to tight ends, allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to the position. A lot of that came in Week 4 against the Raiders, when Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer, and Ian Thomas combined for 16 receptions, 200 yards, and two touchdowns, but KC also allowed TE scores in Weeks 1 and 2, along with 55 yards to Greg Dulcich in Week 3.

The Chargers are also dealing with a ton of injuries at wide receiver: the top five WRs on their depth chart are listed as questionable or doubtful for Week 6. Someone is going to get targets, and with the Chiefs showing issues stopping tight ends, Gadsden could rack up some volume in this one.

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals

It was tough to tell who would be the most productive from LA's tight end group, as they have five guys who could conceivably get on the field (including rookie second-round pick Max Klare, who has played only one snap). Higbee has been by far the most productive of that group, catching 20 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown; those first two numbers are more than all the other TEs combined, and the one TD ties all those other guys.

With great wide receiving talent on the team, I'm not excited about trusting Higbee often, but Arizona presents a phenomenal matchup. They have allowed the most yards per pass attempt and the fourth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. In four of their five games, they gave up more than 75 yards to the opposing TEs, and a player at the position also got into the end zone in four of those games (including a Seattle rushing touchdown from AJ Barner).

Higbee isn't a high-ceiling player, but he should get a few looks in a fantastic matchup. If you have Sam LaPorta on bye, for instance, you could do much worse than grabbing LA's top tight end so far.

Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills @ Las Vegas Raiders

Kincaid started with two strong games, combining for 12 receptions with 225 yards and a touchdown. Since that time, he only has four catches for 52 yards in three games and hasn't scored. That includes one catch for seven yards in each of the past two weeks.

Las Vegas presents a chance to bounce back, though, as they have allowed the fifth-most yards per pass attempt and the sixth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. The Saints got two touchdowns apiece from both Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant in Week 3, and New England's tight ends went for over 100 yards and a touchdown last week. There were a lot of good things going on in Vegas during the first three weeks, but a string of very tough matchups might be bringing them back to Earth.

There is risk here after such a slow stretch over the past three weeks, but Kincaid has a positive outlook here. I feel good about trusting Kincaid as long as you're not benching a weekly starter for him.

Sit

Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers

After setting a career high in receptions and touchdowns last season, Ferguson has sputtered to start 2026, averaging just three receptions and 20 yards per game. He has scored three touchdowns, but Ferguson did most of his damage in a fantastic matchup with Washington in Week 2, otherwise failing to top three catches or 23 yards in any game.

The matchup is also against him in this one, as the Packers have given up the eighth-fewest yards per pass attempt and the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to TEs. Minnesota's tight ends combined for six receptions, 58 yards, and a touchdown in Week 1, but Green Bay hasn't given up more than four catches or 37 yards to the position in any game since with only one other TD.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see Ferguson pick it up statistically as the season goes on, especially with positive matchups against the Cardinals and Colts at the beginning of November. This isn't the game to count on it, though; you can find a better option for Week 6.

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots vs. New York Jets

Henry caught his first touchdown of the season against the Raiders last week and has combined for over 100 yards in the past two games after a slow start to the season. That coincided with Drake Maye's best two games, and the matchups are a big reason why. There are plenty of questions around New England's offensive potency against tougher defenses.

The Jets have been very good against the pass, allowing the third-fewest yards per attempt and the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends. LaPorta had 44 yards in Week 3 and Colston Loveland 57 in Week 4, but no other player at the position has even reached 30 yards, and New York hasn't given up a touchdown to the position.

I don't like the outlook for anyone in the New England passing game this week, including Maye. There's always a chance for a touchdown, but that's true of every tight end. Henry should stay on your bench (or the waiver wire) this week.

Chig Okonkwo, Washington Commanders @ San Francisco 49ers

I don't necessarily feel the need to put Okonkwo here because he is a low-level statistical player and isn't often on the fantasy radar. He is coming off a game in which he caught four passes for 60 yards, though, and we are a little short on other good options for this spot, so we can include the Washington tight end here just to quell any thought you might have about putting him in your lineup.

The matchup is really tough, as the 49ers have given up the fourth-fewest yards per pass attempt and the second-fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends. San Francisco is dealing with injuries on offense, but they have remained stout on defense, helping lead to a 5-0 record.

I'm not going to be recommending Okonkwo often; pretty much only in the very best matchups. This isn't one of those games, and he should remain on the waiver wire.
