Fantasy Football Week 8 Start Decisions Involving Vikings: Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson and More
Looking over some fantasy football start/sit decisions involving Vikings' players.
After taking a look at Los Angeles Chargers players in trending start/sit fantasy football decisions, let's do the same for Minnesota Vikings players.
Check back in a bit for a DFS story on Thursday night's game.
Having trouble deciding who to start? Let the FantasySP start/sit tool help you make a decision.
Should You Be Starting Jordan Addison?
Addison is part of the biggest trending decisions so far. We'll analyze him against Tetairoa McMillan, Tee Higgins and Keenan Allen.
Addison made my top-30 PPR wide receiver ranking list for week 8, but just barely at No. 27.
Fantasy owners prefer McMillan over Addison, although both guys are starting 55% of the time. I have McMillan ranked 22nd, so I also prefer him, but wouldn't mind starting both this week. It all depends on your other options.
Higgins is preferred over Addison, and it's not super close. Fantasy owners are starting both guys 43% of the time. Higgins ranks 18th for me, so he's a bit easier choice over Addison, although again, I don't hate starting both guys depending on your other options.
Allen is the preferred fantasy starter over Addison. Owners are starting both guys 48% of the time. Allen ranks 24th, so he's just a slight favorite over Addison for me. One more time, but both could start, depending on your other options for a flex spot.
T.J. Hockenson Start Decisions
Hockenson is in trending decisions with Kyle Pitts Sr., Zach Ertz, George Kittle and Hunter Henry.
I'm usually not a huge fan of Hockenson this season, but on a week where six teams are on byes, he ranked ninth for me.
Fantasy owners are torn on whether to start Hockenson or Pitts, and both are starting 12% of the time. I have Pitts at No. 11, so while it's close, I prefer Hockenson in week 8. I'd prefer to not start both, unless you have two tight end spots to fill - I'd think you have a better flex option available.
Ertz is preferred over Hockenson, with both guys starting 22% of the time. Ertz ranks down at No. 14 for me, so I'm not for starting him over Hockenson. And if I had both these tight ends, I'd be looking to sit Ertz in week 8.
Kittle is starting over Hockenson by a lopsided amount, with both starting just 8% of the time. I think fantasy owners have it right, as I have Kittle ranked up at No. 4. I'd be looking to sit Hockenson probably, but again, it depends on your other options for a potential flex spot.
Henry is the preferred starter over Hockenson, and it's surprisingly not close - both are starting 19% of the time. Henry ranks 13th for me, which is why I was so surprised at the start percentages for each guy. I like Hockenson by a good bit, and would be looking to sit Henry more often than not this week.
Jordan Mason or Chase Brown?
Mason is being compared to Brown in the only trending decision he's a part of this week.
I'm surprised he isn't in more, as Aaron Jones Sr. is questionable to play, which would be his first game since week 2. Maybe fantasy owners are bailing on Mason as a result.
Anyways, Brown is the preferred starter over Mason, although it's very close. Both backs are starting a whopping 59% of the time.
Mason ranked 17th for me in my top-30 PPR running back rankings for week 8. Brown ranked 20th, so I actually like Mason over Brown.
I made that ranking with the thought that Jones would play on Thursday night. If he doesn't play, Mason would jump up a couple more spots.
Maybe the numbers between Mason and Brown would shift if Jones is eventually ruled out, but it appears that Jones' possible presence is scaring fantasy owners off Mason. I don't think it should, as the matchup for the Vikings' backs is really favorable.
In fact, if Jones plays enough, there's a chance he too could outscore Brown this week. I'd still be starting Brown over Jones, but the matchups really favor the Minnesota backs, so Mason and Jones are two solid starting choices.
Carson Wentz or Marcus Mariota?
Wentz will be making another start for the Vikings, and his lone decision is against another backup who could start in Mariota.
Fantasy owners are taking Mariota between the two. Wentz has the higher projection, and has a higher floor and ceiling, which can also be found at that link.
I have Wentz ranked 21st for week 8. If Mariota ends up starting for Jayden Daniels again, I'd drop him to near the bottom of my list, so I like Wentz over Mariota.
Hopefully you don't have to choose between the two this week. It should only be happening in really deep leagues. Check out my weekly rankings to find a better option.
