Should You Add Zach Ertz?
Ertz was good again in week 2, and now is definitely a waiver wire option heading into week 3.
He caught six of his eight targets for 64 yards and a score against the Packers on Thursday night. That came after a week 1 showing in which he had 26 yards and a score on three grabs and five targets.
The touchdowns are great, but not sustainable. Without those, he's looking like a below-average fantasy asset. But on a Commanders' offense needing more playmakers, I like adding and utilizing Ertz.
Things could get complicated if Jayden Daniels has to miss time with his knee injury. With Daniels back there though, Ertz is an average-or-better fantasy asset at TE every week.
Ertz will take on the Raiders in week 3. Las Vegas hasn't played yet in week 2, but they gave up 76 yards on five catches and nine targets to tight ends in week 1, so I like the matchup.
Ertz will be a starter in deeper leagues, while likely looking like a pretty good standard league option, as long as Daniels isn't out.
Should You Add Jake Ferguson?
Ferguson racked up 78 yards on nine receptions and 12 targets in the team's wild overtime win over the Giants.
It was a nice bounceback performance after only having 23 yards on five catches and six targets in week 1 against the Eagles.
Don't expect Ferguson to deliver this kind of production every week, but as the team's third-best pass catcher, I like Ferguson as a fantasy asset this season.
I'd guess he falls somewhere between his two showings so far this season. That would make him a pretty solid deep-league asset, and a standard league streamer in the right matchups.
In week 3, he gets a matchup against the Bears. Chicago has allowed under seven fantasy points on average to tight ends through two weeks.
It's not the best matchup, but it's average enough to test him out in deep leagues, and start him in some standard ones if you are looking for some TE help.
Should You Add Juwan Johnson?
Johnson delivered good results in week 2, despite a tough matchup against the Niners. He had 49 yards and a touchdown across five catches and nine targets.
He was stellar in week 1 against the Cardinals, racking up 76 yards on eight grabs and 11 targets.
Those 20 targets through two weeks should really catch your attention. His production in yardage and scores has bumped him up another level.
This New Orleans offense is lacking playmakers, and it's looked better than expected with Spencer Rattler at quarterback. I'm not saying this is a high-flying offense, but the team structure is definitely working in the favor of Johnson.
New Orleans is likely to be trailing a bunch this season, so the offense is likely to keep passing a bunch. That works in Johnson's favor, even if he's racking up stats in garbage time.
At a position that's hard to find consistent help at, Johnson is definitely a good option. He was a big-time waiver wire pickup last week, and he should continue to climb as we get into week 3.
Johnson has a week 3 battle with the Seahawks. Seattle has allowed opposing TEs to score over 11 fantasy points a game through two weeks. So not only is Johnson heating up, but he has a good matchup this coming week.
He should rank pretty highly in my weekly TE rankings, and probably be a starting option for deep leagues and standard leagues.
Should You Add Ja'Tavion Sanders?
Sanders turned some heads with his week 2 performance against the Cardinals.
He caught seven of his nine targets for 54 yards. Sanders only had 27 yards on two grabs and three targets in week 1 against the Jaguars.
We don't know which level of production is going to become the norm, but on an offense still searching for playmakers, Sanders definitely could be one of them. He's at least worth some adds in deeper leagues.
Outside Tetairoa McMillan, the Panthers don't have any super proven pass catchers either. It helps that Sanders is a tight end, so he can still rack up targets and production outside the wide receivers.
Week 3 will be a telling test for the young TE as he faces Atlanta. The Falcons have allowed opposing tight ends to catch one pass for 12 yards across six targets in two weeks.
I won't be super high on Sanders for week 3, but after his week 2 showing, he could be worth adding and stashing in some deeper fantasy leagues.
Should You Add Kyle Pitts Sr.?
Pitts was semi-involved again in week 2 when the Falcons took down the Vikings on Sunday night.
He caught four of his five targets for 37 yards. Pitts had 59 yards on seven grabs and nine targets back in week 1 against Tampa Bay.
I like that he's been pretty involved in both games so far, but inconsistencies in yardage are making it hard to gauge Pitts going forward.
He's underwhelmed fantasy owners often since his rookie season ended. At least he's somewhat involved, so I'm going to say things are better than in past years.
Pitts has a matchup against the Panthers coming in week 3. Carolina has allowed the most fantasy points to tight ends through two weeks, not including the two Monday night games in week 2.
Carolina has given up 188 yards and a touchdown on 13 receptions through two weeks.
That's enough reason to start Pitts confidently in week 3. Now it's just a matter of how many leagues you are willing to make that call in.
I'd definitely start him in deeper leagues, and there's enough there to probably make him a standard league starter for the coming week, as well.
Should You Add Evan Engram?
Engram battled through an injury in week 2, and it showed in his results. He only had a 12-yard catch against the Colts, while being targeted just twice.
Engram wasn't much better in week 1, when he had 21 yards across three receptions and four targets.
Now, he has been battling an injury, so maybe his lower production is a result of that. After being a fairly early draft pick, fantasy owners can't be thrilled with his production so far though.
Week 3 is a chance for Engram, and the Broncos' offense as a whole, to get going. They will face the Chargers, who will be on a short week after playing Monday night.
Los Angeles allowed tight ends to go for 50 yards and a score on three catches and five targets in week 1. If you are interested in adding and streaming Engram, watch how the Raiders' tight ends look against LA tonight - that could help you determine how good a week Engram could be in store for in week 3.
Should You Add Harold Fannin?
Fannin followed up his big week 1 showing with a solid outing against the Ravens in week 2.
He had 48 yards on five catches and targets on Sunday. In week 1, Fannin went for 63 receiving yards on seven receptions and nine targets, while adding in a three-yard rush.
Fannin has played in 101 offensive snaps through two games, which is 68% of the team's total. He was at 63% on Sunday, so it was a bit down.
I still liked what I saw from the rookie tight end, who again outproduced starting TE David Njoku, albeit by less than in week 1. I think Fannin could remain pretty involved all season, so I'm all for adding him if he's still available in your league.
The best part with Fannin is that he has a good matchup in week 3 against Green Bay. The Packers' defense has been stout overall, but it's struggled with tight ends. Green Bay has allowed opposing TEs to go for 150 yards and a score over 13 receptions and 18 targets through two weeks.
Both Fannin and Njoku could be in for good fantasy showings in an otherwise rough matchup for the Browns. We'll see if the trend continues.
