Dynasty Fantasy Football | Quarterbacks to Trade While You Still Can: Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields, Kyler Murray and More
These quarterbacks still have fantasy value possible but it will likely never be this high again. Trade them now while you can get the most value for them.
Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets
There are still people who believe that Rodgers is a top-three quarterback in the league and that the Jets would have been a real threat if he didn't get hurt on the first drive of the season. You need to seek those people out and exploit them because neither of those things is true and 2024 is going to be another disaster for this team. Granted, he is better than Zach Wilson so things would have been better, but this team is not a quarterback away.
The idea that his jump to the Jets was a huge upgrade in the offense around him was never true. New York has the worst offensive line in the league and does not have the cap space to significantly upgrade it. We also have no faith that that dumpster fire of a franchise will have the ability to draft so well that the pieces they pick up will have an immediate major impact. The Packers pass-catchers are every bit as good as the Jets, their line is much better, and while I'd rather have Breece Hall, Aaron Jones was still a great back when Rodgers was there.
So with a slightly better overall offense than he has now in Green Bay, in 2022 a 38-year-old and healthy Rodgers threw for 3,695 yards, 26 TDs and 12 interceptions. So what makes anyone think that a 40-year-old Rodgers coming off a major Achilles injury is going to somehow be better or even able to survive behind that line? If someone in your league is willing to take the bait on Rodgers sell him for the best offer you can get immediately.
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
Stafford is still a good QB in a great system with some really good weapons, which is why you should move him now before he falls off a cliff. He's now 36 years old and has a lot of wear and tear on his body.
There was talk of him retiring last year due to arm injuries and a broken back. We don't expect him to be in the league for more than another few years at most.
We've been spoiled lately with athletes like Tom Brady and LeBron James playing at an elite level well past a normal player's prime, but that's still the exception and not the norm.
The ideal situation for this trade is to move him to a team that believes they are a QB away from a championship or maybe they have a young guy like Anthony Richardson but want a veteran they can trust. Unless you're that team, now is the time to move him.
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
Most of the red flags regarding Murray have come to fruition to this point in his career. Scouts were concerned he was too small, would be injury-prone, and he had a poor work ethic in the film room.
The 5-foot-10 quarterback hasn't played a full season since 2020, missing 17 games over the past three seasons. If reports are true, he also isn't a big fan of studying film or learning the playbook. While he has had some high-ups and flashed a massive upside, this could be the reason for his inconsistent production.
Him reducing how often he runs is also alarming for fantasy owners. It may be necessary for his health, but that's what made him a special fantasy player. Small, running QBs rarely get better and healthier with age, however, he's still widely considered a top-10 fantasy QB. You should move him now before things get worse with his future and the direction of the Cardinals both in question.
Justin Fields, Chicago Bears
This is probably the most controversial take on this list as he is one of the most polarizing players in fantasy football right now. Fields is listed with the Bears, but the general consensus is that he won't be with the team by the time they use their first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As rumors swirl, the excitement surrounding him will build. Once he's actually traded the hype can go in either direction, however, it's more than likely most fantasy owners will view almost anywhere as better than Chicago. Currently, the Atlanta Falcons are the favorite to land him.
Fields has massive fantasy upside which is why you should be able to get a haul for him. Quite frankly, this is a trade you may look at mid-season and regret. If you traded him because of this article you may even start cursing me out.
Nevertheless, this is a long-term move. I do not believe he has the skill set to be a long-term starter in the NFL. So, while he will have big blow-up games and elite stretches, the package you can get for Fields will heavily outweigh what you'll get out of Fields long term.
