Week 8 Quarterback & Tight End Waiver Wire Pickups: Marcus Mariota Leads The Way!
As we approach Week 8 of the 2022 NFL regular season, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find any fantasy value from the waiver wire at the quarterback and tight end positions. Nonetheless, Marcus Mariota has emerged as the best free-agent quarterback to target from waivers.
At tight end, Noah Fant of the Seahawks has produced more efficiently in recent weeks. Elsewhere, TE Austin Hooper who is available in more than 90% of fantasy football leagues is coming off of a huge game for the Titans in Week 7.
Let’s dive in and examine the top quarterback and tight end waiver-wire pickups as we head into Week 8 of the regular season.

Quarterbacks
QB Jacoby Brissett, Cleveland Browns (21.38% Owned)
In Week 7, Jacoby Brissett went 22-of-27 for 258 yards passing. While he didn’t throw for a touchdown in the game, he also didn’t turn the ball over and finished with his second-highest rating (106.5) of the 2022 season. In 2022, Brissett has taken over as the Browns’ QB while Deshaun Watson remains suspended until at least Week 12 due to his onslaught of sexual harassment allegations. This season, Brissett has completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,584 passing yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. While he is nowhere near the elite QB you would want to start in your fantasy leagues, if your team is really in need of a QB, Brissett is a viable option. He is available in more than 75% of fantasy football leagues at the moment.
QB Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons (34.93% Owned)
This season, Marcus Mariota has taken over at QB for the Falcons to replace Matt Ryan. He’s been solid this season, especially if you consider that he hasn’t been a starter on any football team since before Ryan Tannehill joined the Titans. In 2022, Mariota has completed 61.3% of his passes for 1,179 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions. He’s also racked up approximately 150 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns this season. At the moment, Mariota is available in more than 65% of leagues and produces enough fantasy points each weekend to be considered a solid starter this year moving forward. His dual-threat ability makes him a borderlines QB1.
Tight Ends
TE Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks (37.20% Owned)
Noah Fant struggled against the Chargers in Week 7. He was one-of-three on targets for a seven-yard reception in their 37-23 loss in Los Angeles. Still, Fant was coming off of a 45-yard game in Week 6, and a 49-yard game in Week 5. In the month of October, Fant has been getting more targets per game than he was in the first few weeks of the season. Geno Smith could be developing some chemistry with the former Broncos tight end. While he had a quiet game in Week 7, Fant remains one of the best available free-agent tight ends. He is available in more than 60% of fantasy football leagues at the moment but deserves to be rostered in most leagues as a backup TE at the very least.
TE Austin Hooper, Tennessee Titans (9.44% Owned)
In Week 8, TE Austin Hooper had three catches for 56 receiving yards (18.7 AVG). While Hooper has only had nine catches for 111 receiving yards in 2022, Ryan Tannehill and the Titans focused on him heavily this weekend. While he may only get one catch in Week 8, he has the potential to have 50+ yards and a touchdown after his Week 7 outing. Since he is available in more than 90% of fantasy football leagues at the moment, he is a very available tight end option for fantasy football owners to add to their bench for Week 8.
