Waiver Wire Adds
The top-five waiver wire adds so far on Friday are Dallas' Naji Marshall, Utah's Kyle Filipowski, Milwaukee's Jericho Sims, Golden State's De'Anthony Melton and Phoenix's Collin Gillespie.
Marshall is up 6.39% and sits at 51.9% overall now.
Marshall has been in a pretty good groove of late, with some well-rounded performances.
He's started three straight games, averaging 15 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.3 blocks over 35.3 minutes a night. There's plenty of fantasy value in those numbers.
I like the idea of adding him in all deeper leagues, at least as a streaming option when the Mavericks have a game. I think he's worth holding on to in those deeper leagues right now.
I also have him as a standard league streamer for the time being. If he keeps delivering similar averages, there's a chance he gets added in standard leagues, so keep an eye on Marshall if you aren't ready to add him today.
Filipowski has been added in 6.02% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 44.94%.
He started the team's last game and provided 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals over 31 minutes. He has been over 29 minutes in three straight games, averaging 13 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks across 30.3 minutes in that short span. Again, there's a lot to like in those numbers.
He is worth deep-league adds, at least as a streaming option for the time being. I personally think he should be held in deeper leagues, as there's a chance he sticks at this kind of production, even if he is coming off the bench.
I see Filipowski as a standard league streaming option right now as well. He might need a long-term injury to Jusuf Nurkic in order to become a keeper in standard leagues. Take advantage of things with Filipowski while you can.
Sims is rostered in just 8.23% of leagues after a 4.64% boost up.
Giannis Antetokounmpo went down with an injury in the last Milwaukee game, and it led to Sims playing 30 minutes off the bench. Antetokounmpo is out a couple weeks (and could be done in Milwaukee forever), so Sims is on the rise before the team's next game.
Sims provided 15 points, 14 rebounds and an assist in that last game. He hasn't played a ton this season, but has been more involved with Antetokounmpo out of the picture over the past few weeks.
He's worth streaming in really deep leagues to see if he can pick up where he left off in the team's last game. If he delivers again, he can be added in more and more deep leagues, which I think will be his fantasy ceiling.
Melton has been added in 4.07% of leagues and now is rostered in 10.06% of leagues overall.
He played his first game on Thursday, providing 14 points, three assists, two steals and one block and rebound across 21 minutes off the bench.
Melton could immediately be a fantasy asset with Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler III working through injuries right now. I see Melton sticking as a key rotation piece, and taking on more as he gets re-acclimated to the game.
He's worth adding in deeper fantasy setups today. All deep-league owners need to be ready to pounce, because another couple solid showings are all it will take for his fantasy own percentage to soar toward 50%. Melton could even become a standard league asset in time, so keep an eye on him.
Gillespie is owned in 83.54% of leagues after a 3.9% increase today.
He has started three of the past four games, but has been playing enough every night to be a fantasy asset. Gillespie has scored in double figures in 10 straight games, with three 20-plus point outings in his starts in that span.
Gillespie is averaging 13.4 points, 5 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks over 26.8 minutes in his 22 games overall this season. He's shooting 44.6% overall and is 44.2% from 3-point land.
He probably needs to provide a bit more to creep closer to 100% owned, but he's a great daily standard league streaming option at the very least. If he starts providing closer to 20 points a night, he will keep rising toward 100% ownership, so be ready to act if his recent trend keeps up.
Some other fantasy basketball players with own percentage increases of 3% or more today are: Boston's Jordan Walsh, Milwaukee's Bobby Portis, Memphis' Vince Williams Jr., Philadelphia's Dominick Barlow, Sacramento's Maxime Raynaud, Miami's Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Dallas' Ryan Nembhard.
Drop Candidates
Washington's Marvin Bagley III is the biggest drop candidate of the day. He's down 10.4% and now is rostered in 45% of leagues overall.
After a couple big fantasy showings, he regressed on Thursday night, only having five points and six rebounds across 25 minutes.
He still started and played a decent role, so I don't love the drastic dropoff in own percentage. Yes, he's not a standard league fantasy asset, but he should be rostered in deeper leagues still.
If his inconsistent showings continue, then I understand dropping him in deeper leagues. Until that happens though, I'm holding on to Bagley, as he's got some sneaky good fantasy value.
Philly's Andre Drummond has been let go in 8.6% of leagues, bringing his overall mark down to 51%.
He came off the bench in his last game, and hasn't topped 20 minutes in any of his past four games now. Joel Embiid is back, so the drop in minutes for Drummond is a good choice.
I'm not ready to write off Drummond, as Embiid is injury prone and will likely miss a lot more games the rest of the season yet. Keep Drummond in mind as a good deep-league option and standard league streamer for games Embiid is out.
For now though, Drummond can be dropped in all standard leagues safely, along with a decent amount of deeper leagues.
Golden State's Draymond Green is down 6% and now sits at 75% rostered overall.
Green only played nine minutes in the team's game on Thursday. He left early with a foot injury.
When active, Green has averaged 8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.8 steals over 28.2 minutes a game so far. There's some decent fantasy value in those numbers, but he's missed a few games and has been up and down as a fantasy asset.
I think he's actually overrated as a fantasy asset and should be let go in most standard leagues. You might be able to trade him on his bigger name, so consider that move first. I like Green as a deep-league asset most often, but he does have standard league upside for stretches too.
Brooklyn's Egor Demin, Indiana's Jay Huff, Golden State's Brandin Podziemski and New Orleans' Derik Queen are other players being dropped in 4% of fantasy leagues or more.
