Waiver Wire Adds
The top-five waiver wire adds of the day are Dallas' Ryan Nembhard, Washington's Marvin Bagley III, Utah's Ace Bailey, Golden State's Seth Curry and Utah's Kyle Filipowski.
Nembhard is up 18.37% and now is rostered in 59.51% of leagues.
He has combined for 43 points, 23 assists, eight rebounds and one steal over his past two games, so it's easy to see why he's on the rise. Nembhard is on a two-way contract, but is definitely making a case for a full-time NBA contract.
Nembhard needs to be rostered in all deeper leagues now, and is a great standard league streamer. He's even worth some standard league adds, even if his production doesn't stick. Another big game or two will get him into a bunch of standard leagues, so be ready to pounce if you aren't quite there yet.
Bagley is up to 50.92% owned after a 17.21% increase today.
Bagley has been great over the past three games, combining for 48 points, 23 rebounds, three steals, five assists and six blocks. He's taking on a bigger role because of several injuries Washington is dealing with, and Bagley is taking advantage.
He's a great deep-league fantasy asset right now, and can be streamed in standard leagues too. I don't see him sticking as a standard league asset, so enjoy his success while you can.
Bailey is up 9.98% and is now rostered in 58.28% of leagues.
He has been a solid fantasy asset of late, scoring in double figures in six of the past seven contests. Bailey adds in assists, some rebounds and a few blocks and steals to be a decent fantasy asset.
I like how he is trending, but also think he's rostered in a few too many leagues right now. I think he is worth a deep-league roster spot, and could be a standard league streamer, but I don't see him as a standard league keeper… yet.
Curry has been added in 9.13% of fantasy leagues, bringing his overall mark to 15.34%.
He signed with the Warriors the other day and got in the game on Tuesday. Across 17 minutes, he had 14 points, two assists and rebounds and one steal. Curry shot 6-of-7 overall.
It was a pretty solid fantasy day for Curry, who took advantage of several regular players out of the picture. The same thing could happen for the team's Thursday game, so he's worth some deep-league streams. We'll see if he can play well enough to become a deep-league hold over time.
Filipowski is up 8.93% and is now owned in 36.2% of leagues.
He has played at or near 30 minutes the past two games, and provided 24 points, seven assists, 15 rebounds and a block in those contests, so it's clear to see why he's rising.
If he can stick near that 30-minute mark, Filipowski has a chance to remain a pretty solid fantasy asset. The opportunity is there with Walker Kessler out for the season, plus with several other Utah big men banged up. He's been a decent fantasy asset in the past, so keep tabs on him in case he takes off again.
There's several other players with own percentage increases of 5 or more. Let's highlight them quickly before moving on to some possible drop candidates.
Sacramento's Maxime Raynaud is up 8.25% today, and that brings his overall percentage to 11.66. Washington's Khris Middleton is up 8.17% and now at 33.74% overall.
Philadelphia's Andre Drummond is rostered in 57.67% of fantasy leagues after a 7.67% increase today.
New Orleans' Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears are both on the rise, up 6.71% and 6.51%, respectively. Queen is rostered in 90.8% of leagues, while Fears is now at 65.03%.
Milwaukee's Bobby Portis is up 6.14% after the injury news for Giannis Antetokounmpo came out. Portis is rostered in 47.85% of leagues.
Brooklyn's Noah Clowney is up to 65.03% owned after a 5.6% increase today.
Drop Candidates
On the other end of the spectrum, we have several drop candidates for you.
Five players are being dropped in 5% of leagues or more, so we will discuss them. Those players are Denver's Spencer Jones, San Antonio's Keldon Johnson and Julian Champagnie, Indiana's Jay Huff and Washington's Bilal Coulibaly.
Jones is down 11.2% and now sits at 12% rostered.
After playing 27 and 38 minutes over two games, he dropped down to 17 minutes and only got up one shot in a game on Wednesday. He needs to be playing more in order to be worth fantasy ownership.
He's worth rostering in really deep leagues to see if his minutes go back up, but if he's under 20 minutes a night, Jones is going to have a hard time being even a deep, deep league fantasy asset.
Johnson is rostered in 54% of leagues after being let go in 8.3% of leagues.
Johnson scored 22 points on November 30, but has just 24 combined points in the two games since. He has 10 rebounds and five assists in that span.
He has taken on more with Victor Wembanyama out of action. I still think he's worth a deep-league roster spot, so I'm not a fan of dropping Johnson if it's a deeper league. He probably is droppable in standard leagues, and definitely will be when Wemby is back.
Champagnie is down to 31% rostered after a 8.2% dropoff today.
Champagnie had a stretch in late November where he posted three straight double-doubles. Since then, he has combined for 26 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and one steal and block over three contests.
He still does enough when on the court for some deep-league ownership, but he's not worth ownership in all deeper leagues. Champagnie seems to have a pretty solid role still too, so don't write him off for good.
Huff has been dropped in 7.1% of leagues, bringing his overall mark down to 63%.
He was one of the hottest fantasy waiver wire adds over the past couple weeks, but now is trending back down. Tallying three points, two assists and blocks and just one rebound over 17 minutes (in his last game) will do that for a fantasy player.
Again, I'm not ready to write him off, but if he produces another similar showing in his next game, he can be let go in all standard leagues, and even some deeper leagues. He needs to be closer to 24 minutes a night in order for deep-league ownership, at least.
Coulibaly was dropped in 6% of leagues, dropping his overall mark to 27%. He is out with an oblique strain - that injury is likely to keep him out several weeks.
He was averaging 8.8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1 block over 27.2 minutes a night, so there was some deep-league value in him.
Coulibaly has played in 12 games and missed eight, so fantasy owners are getting sick of his injury woes. This is the third time he's been injured for more than a game. He can be dropped in a lot of leagues, but don't forget about him when he gets back on the court, as he's shown better fantasy value in the past.
