Thursday's Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers: Can Erick Fedde and Michael McGreevy Excel in Doubleheader Against White Sox?

Welcome back! This is usually a daily article I write, but we've been absent for about the past week.

I was on a trip visiting a few friends about to have a baby, and while I planned to write while I was gone, that's a lot easier to say before you actually go on vacation, right? I hope you weren't left too far in the weeds; it's only the middle of June, after all.

Let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Thursday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamers rankings are listed at the bottom.

Chase Dollander, Colorado Rockies @ Washington Nationals

Let's start with two pitchers facing each other, both with good matchups and getting the benefit of this game taking place in Washington D.C. rather than Colorado. The Rockies are the worst team in the league, near the bottom in most hitting and pitching stats and with a league-worst 16 wins. The Nationals are a little better, but they still show up as a bottom-10 offense at this point in the season and are worthy to stream against. Over the past two weeks, the Nats are in the bottom five in pretty much everything offensively.

Things haven't gone well for Dollander to start his career. He's closer to average with strikeouts (which should hold), but Dollander has walked too many guys, with a BB% near 11% (league average is around 8%). He has big-time pedigree (ninth overall pick in 2023) and time on his side, but it's tough to trust Dollander right now, as he has been hit hard and has an ERA over 6.50. Pitching half his games at Coors Field hasn't helped.

Williams has always been good with walks, but he is well below average with strikeouts this season, something that matches his career but is way down from last year, when he was above-average in that category. Williams has also been hit brutally hard, giving up 82 hits in just 69.1 innings. His 2025 ERA is close to 6.00.

Dollander and Williams are both low-level streamers. Williams has the better matchup and more career success, but it's been a struggle this season, and I'm not counting on him. Dollander probably has a better future in store, but it has been a rough start to his career in about 50 innings.

Erick Fedde, St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago White Sox

The Cardinals and White Sox were rained out yesterday, so we have a double dip against one of the worst teams in baseball. The Sox rank in the bottom three in runs, hits, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. They are also in the top 10 in most batter strikeouts, setting a high ceiling for opposing pitchers.

Fedde signed with the White Sox last season after a year playing in Korea, and he put together career-best work with Chicago. After a mid-season trade to the Cardinals, Fedde regressed a bit, but he was still at least an average pitcher, and maybe a hair better. That work hasn't carried over to 2025; though Fedde has an ERA under 4.00, both this walk rate and strikeout rate are far worse than average. He hasn't been hit too hard or given up a ton of runs, but the underlying rates for Fedde don't paint quite as nice of a picture.

McGreevy has just 34.2 big-league innings to his name, spread across 2024-25. He has been very good in that time, allowing 25 hits, nine runs, and just one home run while walking three and striking out 28. The sample is super small, but it couldn't have gone much better for McGreevy. He was just good and not great in the minors, and he will likely regress toward the mean, but it's worth considering him in this fantastic matchup.

Fedde and McGreevy are both mid-level streamers. Fedde has a longer track record of success, but his recent numbers haven't looked as good. McGreevy doesn't have that history, but he has looked better recently, even if he will likely settle in closer to the middle.

Michael Wacha, Kansas City Royals @ Texas Rangers

Last Friday, I went and watched the White Sox and Rangers play live in Arlington, a game the Rangers won 3-1. It was a matchup of two of the worst offensive teams in baseball. We are back with two more of the bottom offensive teams, and this time, Wacha gets to take advantage of a team that is in the bottom 10 in essentially every offensive stat and in the bottom five in most of those.

Wacha is at least an average pitcher and maybe even a half-step better. He is worse than average with strikeouts but also several percentage points better than average with walks, and he has allowed a home run about once every nine innings, a number a bit better than his career rate. This is the type of pitcher who has fantasy value in the right matchups (like this one).

Wacha is a mid-level streamer. His strikeouts being down caps his ceiling a bit, but he has still found pretty consistent success and has a really good matchup in this one.
