April 30 Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers: Jack Flaherty, Jon Gray, Kyle Gibson and More

A look at Tuesday's probable starters who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

Another day, another list of starting pitchers to potentially add to your fantasy lineup. While none of these guys are superstars, they are the ones who get you through the season; the players who make up the backbone of a team.

Let’s look at Tuesday's probable starters (according to MLB.com) who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups, creating streaming value. Most stats and offensive rankings are from ESPN. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Ryan Feltner, Colorado Rockies @ Miami Marlins

Feltner has struck out over 25% of the batters he has faced this season after previously never reaching 20% in two-plus years. There is a chance that number will drop, and Feltner would lose a lot of value if that happens.

His results have been poor even with the increase in Ks, as Feltner currently owns a 5.68 ERA. He is a player who is only a worthy streamer against the worst lineup. Miami fits that description, sitting in the bottom 10 across most offensive stats.

The matchup makes Feltner a low-level streamer, but he could sniff the middle if he continues striking batters out.

Jon Gray, Texas Rangers vs. Washington Nationals

It’s funny how things work: Gray entered the league as the third overall pick with the Colorado Rockies but never reached the ace-level heights that draft status would seem to indicate. Despite carrying a good strikeout rate, Gray has regularly performed at an average-to-below-average level.

He joined the Rangers in 2022 as part of a talent influx and won the World Series with the team last year. It’s better to be in the right place than to be the best player sometimes.

Gray finds himself in a good spot again on Tuesday, facing a bottom-10 offensive team. Washington has a few promising young names, but the overall roster underwhelms, making for a good fantasy matchup.

With good strikeout numbers, Gray is a mid- to high-level streamer in this one.

Kyle Gibson, St. Louis Cardinals @ Detroit Tigers

Jack Flaherty, Detroit Tigers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Detroit and St. Louis are in a series of futility, and the starting pitchers are the real winners. Both teams are in the bottom 10 in most major offensive stats.

Flaherty keeps drawing good matchups: Four of his five starts have come against the Athletics, White Sox and Twins. He now gets a St. Louis team living near the bottom of the league offensively.

Flaherty strikes batters out at an above-average rate, currently with 36 in 29.1 innings with just four walks. His results have left owners wanting more, though; Flaherty has an 0-1 record and 4.91 ERA despite the positive ratio. Flaherty is still a high-level streamer in this one.

Gibson, on the other hand, has a very below-average strikeout rate both in his career and this season. Only once in 11 seasons has Gibson struck out at least a batter per inning, usually coming in well below that mark.

Against a weak Tigers unit, Gibson has low- to mid-level streaming value, but he is well below Flaherty’s level.

Simeon Woods Richardson, Minnesota Twins @ Chicago White Sox

Michael Soroka, Chicago White Sox vs. Minnesota Twins

Like the Cardinals and Tigers, these two teams are setting levels of ineptitude on offense in 2024. The White Sox have been particularly putrid, essentially falling out of the playoff race two weeks into the season.

With that in mind, Woods Richardson is a good bet for a successful game. His last start was Thursday against the White Sox, and Woods Richardson had an OK outing, allowing two runs in five innings and striking out six.

The strikeouts make Woods Richardson an appealing fantasy option; he strikes out about a batter per inning. Against a weak White Sox team, Woods Richardson is a mid- to high-level streamer.

Soroka also gave up two runs in five innings in his last start (against the Twins), but he struck out just one batter and walked two. In 29 innings this year, Soroka has only struck out 13 batters and walked 17.

That doesn’t cut it at any level. I’m hesitant to put him here, but Minnesota has been weak at the plate, so I’ll call Soroka a low-level streamer best fit for the last spot in your lineup.

Tuesday’s Streamer Rankings

  1. Jack Flaherty, DET
  2. Jon Gray, TEX
  3. Simeon Woods Richardson, MIN
  4. Ryan Feltner, COL
  5. Kyle Gibson, STL
  6. Michael Soroka, CWS
