FORT MYERS - It must be on Blake Swiharts mind constantly, that his inevitable trip from the comfortable confines of the major league clubhouse back to the minor leagues is nearing in less than two weeks.But Swihart, the only one of the Red Sox three catchers who still has minor league options, insists its nothing he thinks about."I dont need to worry about that," he said. "I wouldnt be playing well if I was worrying about that, you know?"

A lot of eyes are on Blake Swihart this spring. The Boston Red Sox catcher is trying to get back in the groove at his natural position after a move to the outfield derailed his 2016 season.
Unfortunately, his early spring training workouts are not providing much optimism thanks to an unexpected glitch.

Swihart, whose season ended on June 4 after he crashed into a wall in foul territory while trying to catch at fly ball at Fenway Park, has encountered some issues with his accuracy on some throws back to the pitcher

The Red Sox will let the battle for the backup catching spot play out through the final days of camp, but Christian Vazquez appears to have the inside track with Blake Swihart likely to be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Spin: "I'll be honest with you -- part of this is the individual play and the overall organizational depth," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "We're not going to deny that. That's important. We like both guys -- I know that. We like all our catchers." Vazquez is out of Minor League options, so the Red Sox would face the very real possibility of losing him on waivers by not putting him on the Opening Day roster. Sandy Leon, who will open the season as Boston's No. 1 catcher, is also out of options.
