Kirk begins minor-league rehab assignment as return from thumb surgery nears
Alejandro Kirk is taking major steps toward a return, having officially started his minor-league rehab assignment on June 3 with Dunedin. He has been sidelined since early April with a left thumb fracture that required surgery, leaving Brandon Valenzuela to handle primary catching duties for a third-place Blue Jays squad (29-33) currently mired in a four-game losing streak.
Once healthy, Kirk should provide a massive boost to fantasy lineups, looking to build on a stellar 2025 campaign where he hit .276 with 20 home runs and 89 RBI. Our models project a solid rest-of-season pace of a .264 average and 10 home runs over 425 at-bats, showing he remains a highly reliable, high-contact option at a shallow position.
Although Toronto continues its schedule this week with matchups against Atlanta and Baltimore—including a challenging date with Chris Sale—Kirk will remain in the minors to build up his stamina. He is still at least a week away from being activated, making him a mandatory Sit in all formats for now, though he remains a priority stash.
