NFL Comp: Alvin Kamara

Summary

We compared Wright to Alvin Kamara and that is based on a young Kamara coming out of college. He has the ability to become that same sort of player in the NFL. Wright is explosive with good size and is a threat to take it to the house on any play. His pass-catching ability also gives him a shot to play on all three downs, especially if he can be a solid blocker in pass protection which he isn't bad at.

Like all the running backs in this class, there are concerns. We would like to see him improve his vision and be more decisive behind the line of scrimmage. Nevertheless, these are all things that could be easily improved on to help him reach his full potential as a star in the NFL.

Strengths

- Impressive speed

- Dynamic playmaker

- Agile and sudden with excellent lateral movement

- Rapid change of direction

- Makes defenders look silly at times

- Very explosive with outstanding burst and acceleration

- Finds pass rushers and gives good effort in pass protection

- Home run hitter

- Strong pass-catching skills with great hands

Weaknesses

- Not as good between the tackles as he is bouncing outside

- Stops feet behind the line at times

- Doesn't possess a ton of power

- Passes up on easy yards trying to make the big play

- Runs too upright

- Some minor fumbling issues

- Can stack too many unnecessary moves and cuts sometimes

Our Take

We love the upside of Wright. He is one of our top three backs in this class and any one of them could emerge as the best one. After Wright, who we have ranked third, there is a drop-off.

There is a chance he becomes an every-down back who sees a ton of volume and is very productive. The fact that he has home run speed and is an outstanding pass-catcher could give him a shot to be a superstar in the NFL. It would be a surprise to see him fall out of the first round. There is a real chance he's the first back off the board on Night 2.
