Friday's Fantasy Basketball Pickups: Small Surging, Horford Delivering
Small headlines the latest waiver pickups, while Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Leonard Miller and Taylor Hendricks offer fantasy value heading into Friday’s games.
It's the final day of the work week, so I have one more fantasy basketball waiver wire story for you.
Here are the stories for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Also be sure to check out Friday's streaming article.
Waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Javon Small: Trending Up in Extended Minutes
Small has been added in 9.45% of fantasy leagues already today, bringing his overall mark up to 32.28%.
Small has delivered more for the Grizzlies in the second half of the season. He has scored in double figures in three straight games, and four of the past five. Over his past three, Small has 50 points, 14 rebounds, 19 assists and four steals.
Memphis has been decimated by injuries this season, and have a laundry list of players on the injury report right now. The more players that are out, the bigger role Small will play for the Grizzlies.
He's a good fantasy option in deeper leagues, and I'm a bit surprised he isn't already owned in more leagues. Utilize him while he's going well. I really think there's some standard league streaming upside, even though his percentage suggests that's a ways off from happening.
Al Horford: Producing More of Late
Horford has been picked up in 4.72% of leagues, and now he's owned in 36.61% of leagues overall.
He has scored in double figures in three of the past four contests, and four of the past six. Horford is coming off a game in which he delivered 13 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks, which is obviously great fantasy production.
When he's active, Horford can be a sneaky good fantasy asset, even at his advanced age. He's cleared for Friday's game, so fire him up.
Horford is another pretty solid option in deeper leagues, especially coming off his last performance. I also think he could be a streaming option in standard leagues for the night, especially if you need to fill a big man slot in your lineup.
Keep tabs on him, but I'd keep rostering him in deeper leagues for as long as he's playing and producing.
Kristaps Porzingis: Coming Off Solid Performance
Porzingis is up 4.33% and is now rostered in 89.76% overall.
He has only played in three games for Golden State since being dealt there at the trade deadline. Porzingis has played in two of the past three, so he's finally ramping things up a bit. He's also expected to play on Friday, which is another good sign.
Porzingis is coming off a performance in which he delivered 17 points, four rebounds and blocks and two assists over 20 minutes. Despite the lower amount of minutes, Porzingis can still deliver for fantasy owners.
He's owned in most leagues because of his big name, but for the days he's active, Porzingis' own percentage should rise, like it is today. Don't be expecting a historic performance because of his lower amount of minutes played, but he can still deliver enough to make him worth adding.
Porzingis should be added/dropped the rest of the season as he goes in and out of the lineup.
Leonard Miller: Back-to-Back Strong Showings
Miller has been added in 3.29% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 4.47%.
Miller hasn't logged much playing time this season, but has appeared in eight straight contests, playing 20 or more minutes in all but one of them. He's really delivered over the past two games.
Miller has combined for 32 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and steals and one block over those two contests. He's importantly started both of those, and combined for 68 minutes played.
Chicago is another squad decimated by injuries right now. With all the players on the injury report, it opens time and opportunity for Miller, and he's taking advantage of things of late.
Add/stream him in some deeper leagues, and continue to utilize him until his numbers fade. He could stick for a while, which makes him worth adding in leagues today.
Taylor Hendricks: Recent Double-Double
Hendricks has been picked up in 2.9% of leagues and he now sits at 17.07% overall.
Hendricks has picked up his play in the latter part of the season. A lot of that has to do with extra opportunities.
He is coming off a game in which he posted 17 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and assists and one steal. Hendricks has been in double figures as a scorer in six of the past eight contests though, and he adds in enough else to provide some fantasy value.
He's another deep-league fantasy option, but maybe worth a bit more ownership. Hendricks could at least be streamed in those leagues, and he's worth holding until he isn't active or isn't producing as much.
