Top Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Targets at the Start of the Week
Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Ziaire Williams, Ajay Mitchell and Gui Santos are trending up and worth considering on the fantasy basketball waiver wire.
As promised, I'm back with some more traditional fantasy basketball waiver wire options.
Here is a story on weekly fantasy projections and waiver adds/streamers, plus Monday's streaming article.
Waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Quentin Grimes: Expanded Role = More Production
Grimes has been added in 12.93% of fantasy leagues, bringing his overall mark to 58.16%.
He has started three straight games for the Sixers. Over his last two contests, Grimes has combined for 42 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Joel Embiid continues to deal with injuries, and Tyrese Maxey is also out for the time being. VJ Edgecombe is another big part of the team's rotation that is going to miss Monday's game.
All those absences help Grimes as a fantasy player, and that's why he's being heavily added today. I definitely would be utilizing him in deeper leagues for the time being, and he's a good standard league option for tonight's game, at least.
Keep an eye on the team's injury report, and be ready to move off Grimes when his role/production falls off. Utilize him until that happens though.
Collin Sexton: Trending Up with Bulls
Sexton is owned in 58.87% of leagues after an 8.34% increase today.
He's caught fire the past four games, scoring 22 or more points in each contest. Sexton has nine rebounds, 12 assists and five steals combined over that stretch.
So while most of his fantasy value is in his scoring, he's done plenty of that lately to be worth adding. Sexton is another good deep-league asset, and he could be streamed in standard leagues until his role/production dip.
The only issue is that he left Sunday's game with a leg injury. You'll need to watch his status, but if he's out there this week, I'd heavily consider adding/utilizing him.
Ziaire Williams: Producing More of Late
Williams is up 6.04% and sits at 9.93% overall now.
Williams has scored in double figures in three straight games, tallying 54 points in those contests. He also has six rebounds and five assists and steals in that stretch.
He's logged 23 or more minutes in four straight, and as long as he's playing that much, he can deliver a bit more than he has otherwise this season. Egor Demin and Michael Porter Jr. are among the Nets out for Monday's game, which opens the door for Williams to keep delivering.
He's just a deep-league asset, but I think he's pretty overlooked right now. Williams is worth adding in a good amount of those deeper leagues, and if he keeps things up another week or so, he could become a standard league streaming asset.
Ajay Mitchell: Returning to Action
Mitchell is rostered in 51.06% of leagues after a 4.42% increase today.
He's expected back - he last played on January 21. With Alex Caruso, Isaiah Hartenstein, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams on the injury report, Mitchell could immediately step back into a key role for OKC.
Mitchell is averaging 14.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.3. Blocks over 26.3 minutes a night over 43 games so far this season. That's solid fantasy production, and off a long layoff, Mitchell can be scooped up for free in a bunch of leagues.
I like him a lot in deeper leagues, and if several OKC players are out, then Mitchell is also a standard league option. Some might wait to see how he looks in his return, but if you don't want to miss out on Mitchell, I'd just suggest adding him today.
Gui Santos: Delivering in Expanded Role
Santos has been added in 2.38% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 74.11%.
Santos has been taking on more of late, and Stephen Curry's absence has factored in heavily with his improved marks. Santos has scored in double figures in 14 of his past 16 games.
Over that 16-game stretch, Santos is averaging 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks over 30.2 minutes a night. Those are pretty good numbers, so I'm a bit surprised he isn't owned in even more leagues.
Santos definitely needs to be rostered in all deeper leagues at this point, and I'd say he's worth an add in a lot of standard leagues too. Check Santos' numbers against the numbers of some of the players at the end of your bench - Santos is likely outperforming at least one guy of late. Add and utilize Santos until Curry is back or Santos' role/production dips.
