Should You Drop John Collins?
Collins is currently rostered in 77% of fantasy leagues. He was near 100% at the start of the season.
He has scored in double figures the past two games, but failed to in the three games before that. Collins has played in all 14 of the Clippers' games, and has logged 354 minutes.
He has started five straight games, but topped 30 minutes just twice in that span. Collins is shooting 50.4% overall and he's 33.3% from 3-point land.
Collins is averaging 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.9 steals, 0.6 assists and 0.5 blocks over 25.4 minutes for the season. His role and usage has dipped in his first year with LA.
It's great that he's starting, but if he's not producing consistent numbers, he's not a good fantasy asset. With Kawhi Leonard out now, it's a chance for Collins to step up. Once Leonard returns, it might be hard for Collins to make a difference, as his starting role and minutes are likely to disappear.
I agree with fantasy owners dropping him, but I'd look to trade him in standard leagues before dropping him outright. The return might not be anything great, but it could be better than anything you find on the waiver wire, so at least throw his name on the trade block first.
He's worth tracking throughout the season, but he could slide into being a better deep-league asset, with standard league streaming upside, instead of a standard league asset at all times.
Should You Drop Naji Marshall?
Marshall has been let go in 6% of leagues, bringing his overall mark down to 52%.
He started and played 47 minutes in a double-overtime game on November 14, but he's come off the bench and combined for 50 minutes in the two games since.
Marshall had 28 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal in that double-OT game, and has just 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists and steals in the two games since combined.
Overall this season, Marshall has started just once across the first 15 games. He's logged 393 minutes, so 26.3 per contest. He's also averaging 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He's shooting 46.2% overall and he's just 26.8% from deep.
He's playing enough to be a good fantasy asset, but his overall numbers hold him back from being a standard league asset. I like him better in deeper leagues, but don't write him off for good, as he's a standard leaguer in stretches.
Keep an eye on his numbers and add/drop him as his role/usage goes up and down throughout the season.
Should You Drop Kelly Oubre Jr.?
Oubre is rostered in 62% of leagues after a 4.5% dropoff lately.
Oubre is dealing with an LCL sprain in his left knee, so he's out indefinitely. Fantasy owners are bailing with no return date in sight.
He missed the team's last game, but played in in the 12 games before that, starting all 12 contests. Over 419 minutes (34.8 per game), Oubre is averaging 16.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks. He's shooting 49.7% overall and is 34.3% from deep.
He's been a solid standard league asset so far, but if you don't have an IR spot to put him in, Oubre probably isn't worth holding in those leagues. Keep an eye on his return and add him back as he nears a return.
He should stay rostered in deeper leagues, as long as he's not out for an extended period of time. I think he's a nightly starter in deeper leagues, so I'm holding on to him for as long as I can. Hopefully you can put him in an IR spot, or can get by without him, because he's been a very good deep-league asset so far.
Should You Drop Jalen Green?
Green is currently rostered in 88% of leagues, with a 3.6% dropoff today.
Green has a hamstring injury, and is going to be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks. That's a long stretch to be without a fantasy basketball player, so that's why he's being dropped in standard leagues today.
He got in just two games before getting injured - for a second time this season. Green had 29 points, three rebounds and assists and two steals over nearly 23 minutes in his first game of the year, which showcased his fantasy upside. He then got hurt less than seven minutes into his second game, and now will miss extended time.
I really like Green as a fantasy asset, so dropping him in standard leagues definitely hurts. It might be necessary though, especially if you don't have an IR spot to put him in.
He's another player you need to keep holding in deeper leagues, as he's just too valuable to drop. If you absolutely need Green's roster spot, maybe look into trading him away before dropping him. The return isn't going to be that good, but it'll be better than what you can find on the waiver wire.
Hopefully Green can return as soon as possible and then stays healthy after that. It's been a rough start to the season for him, but maybe he can rest and get healthy over these next few weeks, then be a good fantasy asset after that.
Should You Drop Max Christie?
Christie is down 3.3% and now sits at 48% overall.
He has started 12 straight games for the Mavericks, but dropped down to 18 minutes in his last outing. There's no report of him getting injured, so this is kind of puzzling. Maybe the team was giving him a break after back-to-back overtime games.
His usage and minutes will be worth tracking over the next several games as a result. Hopefully he jumps right back to his season average of 29.8 minutes.
Over 15 games, he's averaging 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.5 steals and blocks so far. Christie is shooting 47.3% overall and he's 45.8% from deep.
He's had a decent start to the season, and does enough for deep-league fantasy ownership and usage most nights. If his minutes drop, then he will be dropped in deeper leagues though.
Keep an eye on Christie to see if this game was just an outlier, or if it was a sign of things to come.
Should You Drop Herbert Jones?
Jones is rostered in 49% of leagues after a 3.2% dip today.
He has started all 14 games for the Pelicans so far, but he's logged just 28 and 26 minutes in the past two contests. He combined for 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in those games, so it's easy to see why he's being dropped.
Over 30.2 minutes for the season, Jones is averaging 9.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.2 blocks per game. He's shooting 39.8% overall and is 37.1% from deep.
He's taken a step back as a fantasy asset this season, but that can be traced to playing a bit less. Jones is still playing enough to be a worthwhile fantasy asset, so he just needs to do more in his time on the court.
With Zion Williamson, Dejounte Murray, Jordan Poole and now Saddiq Bey out with injuries, the opportunities for Jones to deliver are there. He's only worth deep-league fantasy usage right now, but don't write him off for good, because he could turn things around and be a legit standard league fantasy asset if he can get in a groove.
