Zach Eflin is the pitcher to pick-up on the waiver wire
Zach Eflin has been absolutely stellar in the month of June for the Philadelphia Phillies. For the month of June, Eflin ended with a 5-0 record, 30.2 innings pitched, 28 strikeouts to go along with a 1.76 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.
Before even continuing this article, you should be jumping on the waiver wire right now to pick him up. There is still a slight chance you can snag in in a 10 or 12 team league with ownership at around 56%.
The truth is that Eflin has been pretty good all year long. Only once this season did his ERA go above 4.00, which occurred just before this run in June. His WHIP never went above 1.31.
Eflin has had 8/10 starts giving up 2 runs or less. Of those two bad starts, he gave up 5 runs each. Both of those bad starts happened in back-to-back outings, which means Eflin has been safe to start for the majority of the season.
What I am describing to you is a starting pitcher that you can count on, and for the most part, a very solid contributor for the Phillies for the past two months.
However, keep in mind Eflin has never posted a season in which his ERA was below 5.54, so he could be due to see some regression in the second half of the season. As of today, we expect Eflin to have a 3.91 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and another 8 wins in the second half of the season.
However, that doesn't mean you should skip on him. Go ahead and pick him up and ride him while he's still hot. Jake Arrieta owners will be mighty jealous.
