Mike LeakeSP | St. Louis Cardinals
|Compared to same point last season|
Cardinals righty Mike Leake didn't factor into the decision Sunday after he allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings vs. the Pirates.
Spin: Leake had a superlative start to the season, carrying a 2.24 ERA into the month of June. However, given his lack of strikeouts and his extremely good fortune on balls in play, he was a strong regression candidate. That has played out in June, as Leake has posted a 5.16 ERA and served up 34 hits and nine walks in 29 2/3 innings this month. There hasn't been much of a shift in Leake's skill set, as his K/9, BB/9 and ground-ball rates are all very similar to his career marks. As such, owners should anticipate an ERA in the upper-3.00s moving forward, which would be par for the course for Leake. His next outing is set for June 30 when a hard-hitting Nationals lineup visits St. Louis. Owners would be wise to bench Leake for that matchup.
Leake allowed one run on three hits and two walks over six innings while striking out five but had to settle for a no-decision in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Phillies. After delivering nine straight quality starts to begin the season, Leake had failed to do so in any of his prior four starts before regaining his form Tuesday, dropping four straight decision in the process [...]

Sunday's start will not only be a chance for Mike Leake to defeat Chad Kuhl and the Pirates for the second time this season, but it will also provide the Cardinals right-hander an opportunity to get back in the win column and continue his career dominance against the Pirates, who will be seeking a sweep of the three-game series in St. Louis.
