Week 9 Fantasy Football Start/Sit Decisions: 8 Running Backs to Consider

Which running backs deserve a starting spot in Week 9? Let's break down eight players and their fantasy outlooks.

Let's continue discussing fantasy football start/sit decisions by going over some running backs here!

We have already discussed quarterbacks and tight ends in separate stories! Check back later for a start/sit article on wide receivers.

This week, we're doing something a little different and discussing running backs who aren't starting in most fantasy leagues already. We'll break down eight running backs, so let's get right to it!

Use the FantasySP start/sit tool for all your Week 9 lineup decisions! Projections and defensive rankings are also available!

Should You Start Jonah Coleman?

Coleman is owned in all fantasy leagues, but is starting in 85% of leagues.

He will be taking on the Panthers and is projected for 15.4 PPR points. Carolina is the second-most favorable fantasy matchup a RB could have, so he's set up well to deliver big.

Since returning from injury, he's led the Denver backfield, which is why he's a rising fantasy asset. He had nine carries for 54 yards in Week 7, while adding two receptions for 15 yards. Coleman had 41 rushing yards and a score on 11 carries in Week 8, while catching four of his five targets for 63 yards.

I only see his role expanding from here, but I already think he's an RB who should be starting in all leagues. He's 19th in my Week 9 RB rankings, and because of the matchup, that should give you enough reason to try the rookie.

Should You Start Ollie Gordon?

Gordon is rostered in all leagues and is starting in about 83% of them for Week 9.

Gordon has taken over the backfield lead in Miami since the De'Von Achane injury. Over the past five games, he's had 17 or more carries on four occasions, and he's scored four rushing touchdowns in that span. He hasn't added much as a pass catcher, but getting near 20 touches a game makes him a decent fantasy asset.

He's got a pretty tough matchup coming against the Lions, but is still projected for 14.2 PPR points. I'm higher on Gordon than most, ranking him 12th among RBs this week.

Even though the matchup isn't good, I think he should be starting in most leagues because of his weekly workload. If he can get near 20 touches again, there's a chance he posts a good fantasy score, especially if he can find the end zone.

Should You Start Quinshon Judkins?

Judkins is owned in all leagues, while starting in about 87% of them for this week.

He's coming off a down performance in Week 8, and really only has two good fantasy outings so far this season. Judkins only having three total touchdowns definitely plays a role in that, as he's racked up 342 rushing yards and 134 receiving yards over seven games.

Judkins has the best fantasy matchup an RB could have, with the Saints allowing about 30 fantasy points per contest to the position. That sets up Judkins really well. He's also helped by the fact that Shedeur Sanders is starting over Deshaun Watson, who is questionable with a concussion.

Judkins is projected for 13.6 fantasy points. I have him ranked 18th among RBs, so he's another player I'd be starting in just about every fantasy league, unless I was stacked at running back. Expect big things from Judkins in Week 9.

Should You Start Rhamondre Stevenson?

Stevenson is owned in all leagues, but is starting in under 80% of them this week. He has an above-average matchup coming against the Packers.

He got 22 touches and gained 90 total yards last week, but without a touchdown, his fantasy score was lacking. He's gotten 13 or more carries in four of the past five contests, and factors in plenty as a pass catcher, which gives him a good fantasy outlook.

TreVeyon Henderson is out again with an illness, so Stevenson should have the backfield pretty much to himself against Green Bay. Corey Kiner will be RB2.

Stevenson is projected for 13.5 PPR points in Week 9. I have him ranked 24th, but would put him higher after the Henderson news. I think he's a very good flex-level option in standard leagues, and he's worth a lot of starts thanks to his recent workload, his outlook and the matchup.

Should You Start Woody Marks?

Marks is rostered in about 93% of fantasy leagues - he's starting at about 55% of leagues.

He's set to lead the Houston backfield again, as David Montgomery will miss another game - for that reason alone, I'm not sure why he's not at 100% owned.

Marks has gotten at least 15 carries in each of the past three games, and has also tallied seven receptions over that span. He hasn't scored a touchdown, which has limited his fantasy scoring, but his workload has been notable.

He's projected for 13 PPR points in an above-average matchup against the Chargers in Week 9. I have him ranked 21st this week, but again, all the fantasy notes with him are positive, so I think he should be starting in most leagues. He's at least a standard league flex-level option.

Should You Start Tyler Allgeier?

Allgeier is rostered in about 95% of leagues, while starting in 47% of those.

He's set to lead the backfield in Arizona while Jeremiyah Love is out with an injury. Allgeier has one big fantasy outing this season, but it came last week, when he had 191 total yards and two touchdowns on 16 touches.

The matchup against Seattle is actually slightly above-average, so Allgeier is a decent fantasy option for the coming week. He's projected for 11.7 fantasy points.

I have him ranked 28th for this week, so I see him as a standard league flex-level option. While the matchup is slightly above-average, I don't like that Gardner Minshew is starting at QB against a Seattle team that needs a win. I think the game could go south for Arizona, which would limit Allgeier's touches in the running game. He could make an impact in the passing game though, so he's still not a bad fantasy option for Week 9.

Should You Start Rachaad White?

White is sitting at 94% owned, and he's starting in 52% of those leagues.

He's the new lead back for Washington, and he has a couple of solid fantasy showings in a row, although a touchdown in each game helped his cause. White had 60 total yards on 13 touches in Week 8 and 57 total yards on 11 touches in Week 6.

The Rams are a below-average matchup for him in Week 9. He's projected for 11.64 PPR points.

I still have him ranked 23rd among RBs for Week 9. His lack of touches concerns me a bit, but his ability to find the end zone is a plus. If Washington can keep the game close, White could be a sneaky-good fantasy option this week. He's worth deep-league starts for sure, but is also a standard league streaming option.

Should You Start Zach Charbonnet?

Charbonnet is at 95% rostered, but is starting in just 35% of those leagues.

He made his season debut in Week 8, getting six carries and three receptions across four targets. Charbonnet had 23 rushing yards and six receiving yards. He split the backfield with Jadarian Price.

His matchup against Arizona is slightly below average, but nothing too daunting. Charbonnet is projected for 11 PPR points.

I have him ranked 25th this week in a game I expect Seattle to win. I still expect Charbonnet and Price to split the backfield, but I think Charbonnet leads the way. I have him as a better deep-league option, but also a standard league streaming option for fantasy teams lacking RBs.
