Fantasy Football Trade Value Updates for Wide Receivers and Tight Ends: A.J. Brown, Brian Thomas and More
Morgan analyzes wide receivers and tight ends on the move as week 3 of the NFL season sets in.
After checking out fantasy football quarterbacks and running backs on the move as week 3 approaches, let's do the same for wide receivers and tight ends.
We'll keep the focus on heavily-rostered players who have legit trade value in standard fantasy leagues.
The entire Trade Value Chart can be found on FantasySP, and is updated all regular season!
Pass Catchers with Rising Values
Rome Odunze, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Davante Adams are three notable wideouts on the rise as week 3 nears. Juwan Johnson, Tyler Warren and Tucker Kraft are three tight ends whose player ratings have shot up over the past week.
Odunze has seen his player rating rise 1.3 over the past week.
The Bears' offense has kind of been a mess early on, but Odunze has starred. He leads the team with 131 offensive snaps played, and also is tops in targets with 20.
Odunze has turned those targets into 13 catches, 165 yards and three touchdowns. He had nine targets in week 1 before 11 more in week 2.
I don't trust many on this Bears' offense, but I like Odunze a bunch. Some see him as a sell-high candidate, but I actually think his value will continue to rise.
I could see Chicago turning to Odunze as WR1 and maybe even moving D.J. Moore at some point. Even if that doesn't happen, I like Odunze's fantasy outlook moving forward.
Get him rostered before it's too late.
Smith-Njigba is up 0.5 and is nearly a top-10 fantasy wideout as a result.
JSN has a whopping 23 targets through two weeks. That is 11 more than any Seattle teammate.
Smith-Njigba has played 82 snaps, which is the third-most on the team. He still leads the way easily with 17 grabs and 227 yards. He somehow hasn't found the end zone, but that will come soon enough.
He's ranked highly for me in two straight weeks, so you should know I really like JSN as a fantasy asset. He's at the start of a breakout season, and I see him being a top-10 fantasy wideout. Get him on your team before his value grows even more.
Adams is up just 0.4, but is a good trade target, so I decided to include him.
I was surprised to see that Adams actually leads the Rams in targets. Puka Nacua has been the better fantasy asset, but Adams' production hasn't slowed.
Adams has played a team-leading 103 snaps and has 21 targets (Nacua is at 80 snaps and 20 targets). Nacua leads the way with 221 receiving yards, and scored a TD on a rushing attempt to bolster his numbers more. Adams has 157 receiving yards and one score.
I'm in the sell-high boat with Adams. I have him closer to WR20, and he's crept up to WR15 on the trade chart. His big name will add even more value, and get you a stellar return. If you're set at wide receiver but need help elsewhere, trading Adams seems like a no-brainer move to me.
Johnson is up 2.6 after another big showing in week 2.
The Saints' offense has been surprising in the early going, and Johnson has been a big reason why. He's played a team-high 142 offensive snaps, and is second to Chris Olave in targets (23-20).
Johnson leads the team with 125 receiving yards, and has scored once too. He had 11 targets in week 1 and nine more in week 2.
He was a waiver pickup after weeks 1 and 2, and now has a favorable matchup for week 3. If you scooped him up and are trying to sell him now, I'd wait until after week 3 at least. Remember, Taysom Hill could also return later this season, at which point Johnson's role could be diminished a bit.
So hold him another week, then look to sell him high.
Warren is up 0.8, and it will likely be even higher if he's cleared to play ths week.
I loved Warren coming into the season, and he's delivered early on. He is tied for the second-most snaps among the pass catchers in Indy, but leads the way in targets (16) and receiving yards (155).
Warren had nine targets in week 1 and seven more in week 2. He's been a good fantasy asset without a score, so I only see his fantasy value growing.
Buy him now before his value grows even more, because he looks like a top-five fantasy TE for every week the rest of the season.
Kraft has seen his player rating rise 0.9 over the past week.
Kraft starred in week 2, but also scored a TD in week 1. He leads Green Bay pass catchers with 11 targets through two weeks, and now with Jayden Reed out, Kraft could really shine.
He's played 106 offensive snaps, which is easily the most of any pass catcher. Kraft has 140 yards and two scores across eight catches.
I think he's at the start of a breakout season, so I'm for trading for him now, before his value increases even more.
Pass Catchers with Falling Values
Justin Jefferson, Brian Thomas, A.J. Brown and Courtland Sutton are among the numerous wideouts who have seen their fantasy values drop a good bit over the past week. Mark Andrews and T.J. Hockenson are the tight ends who have fallen the most of late.
Jefferson has seen his player rating drop 0.6 over the past seven days
He leads the Vikings with 125 yards, a score, seven receptions and 13 targets, but he hasn't been the top-end fantasy talent we expected, and now with revolving QBs in Minnesota, things don't look great.
Most fantasy owners still value him really highly, and I'd look into what offers come about. Trading him could be a way to upgrade a position of need, or add a couple pieces to a struggling team through two weeks.
Thomas' player rating is down a full point, although an injury concern is also included there.
He leads Jacksonville with 19 targets, but only has 60 yards on five receptions. Thomas leads the pass catchers with 124 offensive snaps played. Thomas also has an injury now to deal with.
Some are concerned that Thomas is going to fall off in year two, but I'm in the buy-low boat. Better showings are ahead, and the injury doesn't seem like a massive deal at this point. Buy in before he delivers and his value shoots way back up.
Brown is down 0.9 over the past week.
Brown is tied for the team lead in targets (nine), but only has 35 yards on six grabs through two games.
That's not what you want to see from a top-10 fantasy wideout. Some are bailing on him already, and won't get great value back. If you are worried about him, wait for a decent fantasy outing so you can get a better return.
Sutton has fallen 0.9 over the past seven days.
Sutton is WR1 in Denver, but he's two targets behind Troy Franklin through two weeks. Sutton has 67 yards and a score on seven grabs and 13 targets.
He only was targeted four times in week 2, so maybe it was just one down week. His production is down so far, and that has his fantasy value trending down.
I like buying low on Sutton. I think he and the Broncos' offense is going to get rolling soon.
Andrews is down a whopping 1.3 over the past week.
He's played 83 offensive snaps, which is second behind standout Zay Flowers. Andrews has just four targets though, and has made two grabs for seven yards through two weeks.
That's obviously terrible fantasy production, and while he's bound to improve, I'm not in favor of buying low on Andrews. He could be droppable if he struggles again in week 3.
Also don't forget that tight end teammate Isaiah Likely will be back at some point, possibly taking more away from Andrews.
If I rostered him, I'd basically take any potential weekly starter at any skill position in return. I think Andrews is going to have a down year overall, so I'm out on him.
Hockenson is down even more than Andrews, dropping 1.5 over the past week.
He's played 79 offensive snaps, which is third amongst the pass catchers. Hockenson has just 27 yards on four catches and seven targets through two weeks.
Jefferson is clearly the top target in Minnesota, and Jordan Addison will be back after week 3, meaning more competition for Hockenson. Throw in Jalen Nailor and Adam Thielen and Hockenson could really be squeezed out of things in a few weeks.
I'd again take anything offered in a trade, because another poor week likely means Hockenson gets dropped. I'm out on him.
