The 2025 NFL regular season kicks off with the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Dallas Cowboys.

As we do for most standalone games during the season, let's look over each team's fantasy outlook. We'll start with the Eagles here.

Having trouble deciding who to start in week 1? Let the FantasySP start/sit tool help you make a decision.

Jalen Hurts Fantasy Outlook

Hurts is one of the better fantasy quarterbacks in the league, and has a very favorable matchup in this one. Actually, he is going up against the defense that allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 2024.

Hurts is a top-end fantasy asset because of his dual-threat ability. He's not the best passer, but his added rushing stats usually lead to top-end fantasy finishes at his position.

He's the top-projected fantasy QB for week 1, set for 26 points. Hurts is also my top-projected QB for the first week.

Hurts is a must-start fantasy asset anyways, and there's no reason not to be excited about his outlook this week. In his only game against Dallas last season, he was 14-of-20 passing for 202 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while adding 56 rushing yards and two scores on seven attempts.

Hurts should star in week 1, and be one of the better-scoring assets in the league.

Running Back Fantasy Outlook

Saquon Barkley is another top-end fantasy option every week. He is the top-projected back on FSP, and for my week 1 rankings as well.

His matchup is above average based on last season's numbers. In one game against Dallas, Barkley had 33 touches for 169 yards, but no scores. Barkley finished with 78 total yards on 15 touches, but again no scores, in the other matchup.

I see Barkley finishing somewhere in the middle of those two yardages, but tacking on a score or two. That will make him one of the better fantasy assets in week 1.

Will Shipley also cracks the FSP week 1 RB projection list, but is at just four PPR points - Barkley was at 22.

Shipley had 117 total yards and no scores across only 34 touches during a 16-game rookie season in 2024.

He figures to be the No. 2 back behind Barkley, and could carve out a role since the Eagles' offense only has a few proven playmakers. We'll need to see it before trusting Shipley though, so I'd stay away from him this week, unless news breaks that Barkley is going to be limited in some fashion.

Wide Receiver Fantasy Outlook

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are the team's go-to wideouts. The Philly wideouts have another above-average fantasy matchup, based on last year's numbers.

Brown is WR1 and is projected for 16 PPR points in week 1. That's one of the higher marks for the week. I have him ranked 10th at the position for the week.

Brown went for 1,079 yards and seven scores on 67 catches and 97 targets last season - he played in 13 games. In one game against Dallas, Brown had 36 yards and a score across three grabs and five targets, and in the other contest, he finished with 109 yards and no scores over five catches and seven targets.

Brown has the best chance to score of any Philly wideout or tight end, but is probably third after Barkley and Hurts to score on the offense. That's why he doesn't rank any higher than 10th, and why he's inconsistent during the season.

He's still a good/great starting option every week, and I would be starting him in every league for week 1. Brown deserves a starting spot after you spent an early pick on him.

Smith is projected for 13 PPR points this week. He's my No. 28 fantasy wideout for week 1.

Smith played in 13 games as well last season, tallying 833 yards and eight scores over 68 catches and 89 targets.

He had two very different showings against Dallas. In one game, he went for just 14 yards on two catches and three targets. In the other contest, Smith erupted for 120 yards and two scores on six receptions and seven targets.

I'm guessing he finishes between those two marks, and tacking on a touchdown would take a good fantasy day to a possibly great one.

The new FantasySP fantasy outlook section on player pages had this to say about Smith: “With a 100% roster rate and start rates trending into the low-70s, managers generally view him as a weekly starter. We project roughly 6-7 targets, giving him a stable PPR floor around 12-14 points with touchdown-driven upside. In a game that should encourage passing, Smith is a strong start in 10-12 team PPR formats. Minor risk: target volatility week to week, but our outlook remains bullish for opener confidence.”

I too like starting Smith in most fantasy setups for week 1. The matchup is good, and there's room on the Philly offense for him to step up.

After Brown and Smith, I'm not sure if another Philly wide receiver will be a fantasy asset, at least not consistently this season. Jahan Dotson is the projected starter alongside the top two guys, and Darius Cooper and John Metchie III are some depth options.

None of those guys are worth starting, even in the deepest of fantasy leagues. They will need to deliver, and probably do it consistently, for anyone to ever start them (unless Brown and Smith are hurt).

Tight End Fantasy Outlook

Dallas Goedert is the team's top tight end, and the only notable fantasy option at that position when healthy. He'll be the team's third-best pass catcher.

He's projected for nine PPR fantasy points in week 1. I have him as the 10th-best fantasy TE for the first week.

Goedert is the lone offensive playmaker with a below-average matchup, based on last year's numbers. As the team's No. 3 option though, I see good things for him in week 1.

He recorded 496 yards and two scores over 42 receptions and 52 targets in 10 games played last season. Goedert played one game against Dallas, tallying 25 yards and a score over two catches and three targets.

I see more targets and production coming for Goedert in week 1, and a score would just be a bonus, and maybe help him push for a top-five finish at the position this week.

Don't overlook Goedert, and feel free to start him in any league. The deeper the league, the better an option he becomes.

Kicker Fantasy Outlook

Jake Elliott is the team's kicker. He's projected for eight fantasy points this week.

He made 28 of his 36 field goals last season, with six of those misses coming from over 50 yards. Elliott was 47-of-48 on his extra points.

Elliott made two field goals in each game against Dallas last season. He made five extra points in one contest, and four in the other.

He's a good fantasy option this week, and most weeks.

Defense/Special Teams Fantasy Outlook

The Eagles' D/ST is projected for eight fantasy points in week 1. They are one of the most highly-regarded units in the entire NFL.

In one game against Dallas last season, Philly's defense allowed seven points. The Cowboys had just 268 total yards, turned the ball over four times and were sacked once.

In the other contest, the Cowboys scored six points. Dallas had 146 total yards in that one, along with five turnovers and three sacks allowed.

The Cowboys' offense should be better this season with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb back at full strength, but the Philly D/ST is one to start confidently every week.

They could put up monster numbers in a lopsided win, and even in a close contest, could rack up enough big plays to post a better-than-average fantasy score.
