Fantasy Football Quarterback Preseason Notes
CJ Stroud Named Houston Texans Week 1 Starter
After making him earn it, the Texans have finally named their 2023 first-round pick the starting quarterback for Week 1. This felt inevitable, but the Texans made us wait it out.
San Francisco 49ers Trade Trey Lance to The Dallas Cowboys
The 49ers gave up on what may go down as the worst trade in NFL history, shipping the former first-round pick to Dallas for a fourth-round pick. The haul they sent to the Miami Dolphins turned into a slew of players headlined by Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Bradley Chubb.
Sam Darnold Named QB2
With Lance officially out of the Bay Area, Darnold has been named the 49ers' QB2, a position that has seen plenty of regular season reps under Kyle Shanahan.
Fantasy Football Running Back Preseason Notes
Indianapolis Colts Grant Jonathan Taylor Permission to Seek a Trade
Indy has allowed their disgruntled star to seek a trade. There have reportedly been multiple teams interested in Taylor, however, the Miami Dolphins have been the most aggressive and are still working on a deal with the Colts.
Las Vegas Raiders Sign Josh Jacobs To A New Deal
The Raiders have signed Jacobs to a one-year $12 million deal. This is just another running back contract that allows both sides to save face and doesn't really solve anything. It does guarantee that Jacobs will be playing for Vegas this year, however, so expect his ADP to rise.
Dolphins Running Back De'Von Achane is Week-to-Week With Shoulder Injury
After suffering a shoulder injury in the Dolphins' second preseason game, the rookie has been listed as week-to-week. While he hasn't been ruled out for Week 1, he should be considered very questionable.
New England Patriots Trade Pierre Strong to the Cleveland Browns
Strong was a candidate to steal passing-down work away from Rhamondre Stevenson. That is no longer the case as he's been shipped off to the Browns for offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley following the Patriots' signing of Ezekiel Elliott.
Sean Tucker Splitting First-team Reps With Rachaad White in Tampa Bay Buccaneers Camp
This is terrible news for White, whose value hinges upon him getting massive volume. If Tucker were to become a major part of this offense, White managers would regret drafting him.
Multiple Former Fantasy Stars Cut
We saw a bunch of former big names cut as teams try to get down to 53 players. Most notable so far have been the New York Giants cutting James Robinson and the Colts cutting Kenyan Drake.
Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Preseason Notes
Jerry Jeudy Carted Off at Denver Broncos' Camp
Jeudy was carted off with a hamstring injury last week and it looks like this will impact his regular season. He is reportedly expected to miss "at least several weeks." Beyond that, hamstring injuries tend to linger and are prone to re-injury.
Terry McLaurin Suffers Turf Toe Injury
Scary Terry suffered a toe injury last week and is in danger of missing Week 1. However, he has not yet been ruled out and shouldn't miss more than a week or two at worst. This could impact him all year, though, as turf toe injuries linger a long time without the proper rest, which is a matter of months not weeks.
Chiefs Are Hopeful Kadarius Toney Will Be Available in Week 1
The oft-injured Toney got hurt almost immediately in camp and had to undergo a minor knee surgery. The team hopes to have him back at practice this week and does expect him to play Week 1 as long as there are no setbacks.
Jakeem Grant Carted Off in the Browns' Preseason Game
Grant is one of the top returners in the league trying to make it back from a torn Achilles. Unfortunately, he suffered a major leg injury on the opening kickoff in his return and was taken off in an air cast. His season is over.
Green Bay Packers' Preseason Star Romeo Doubs Dealing with a Hamstring Injury
Doubs was inactive for the Packers' final preseason game with a hamstring injury. This is something to monitor leading up to Week 1.
Treylon Burks Unlikely to Suit Up in Week 1
The second-year wideout went down with a knee injury a few weeks ago that looked like it could have been catastrophic. Luckily it wasn't, however, he still looks to be on the wrong side of questionable for Week 1.
New York Jet Corey Davis Retires
Davis has decided to conclude his NFL career at the age of 28. This could open up targets for Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb in the Jets' offense.
DJ Chark Not Looking Good to Play Week 1
Chark is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss "some time." It sounds like he is on the wrong side of questionable for Week 1.
Seattle Seahawks Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba Undergoes Wrist Surgery
The first-round pick underwent wrist surgery last week. While he hasn't officially been ruled out for Week 1, it looks unlikely that he will be able to suit up. He could be a candidate for the PUP list.
