As the NBA regular season nears, fantasy basketball drafts will pick up.

In this article, I wanted to go over some Average Draft Position data, which we have available here at FantasySP! It only makes sense to look at the players being drafted first to kick things off, so let's dive into the first 10 picks!

Check out fantasy basketball Average Draft Position data on FantasySP as you prepare for the 2025-26 NBA season!

Top-Five Picks

The first player off draft boards is Denver's Nikola Jokic. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone after several years of continued success.

A season ago, he averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. Jokic shot 57.6% overall, 41.7% from 3-point land and 80% from the free-throw line.

You aren't going to find a more well-rounded player too often. And the best news is that he plays most nights, with 69 or more games played in all 10 years of his NBA career. It all adds up to the No. 1 overall pick, at least for one more year.

Oklahoma City's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the second player off draft boards on average, going at pick 2.71. San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama is third and at pick 3.57, while Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo and Los Angeles Lakes' Luka Doncic are each at pick 4.57 on average.

Comparing those four player's stats from last season, you get a mix of everything.

SGA led the way in games played (76) and points per game (32.7), along with 3-point percentage (37.5) and free-throw percentage (89.8). Antetokounmpo, who played in 67 games, was the leader in rebounds (11.9) and overall field goal percentage (60.1).

Doncic, who played in 50 games, was tops in assists (7.7) and steals (1.8). Wembanyama was limited to 46 games, but has been cleared and appears ready to go for 2025-26 - he was the leader in blocks (3.8) among that quartet.

You really cannot go wrong with any of those four guys after Jokic goes first.

Wemby offers the most upside, but there's a little concern over his injury from last season now. If you are looking for a guy who plays nightly, then SGA is the man you want.

Doncic and Antetokounmpo are both pretty well-rounded players to start a team with. I prefer Antetokounmpo, and think he's actually underrated despite going among the first five picks.

Picks 6-10

The next player off draft boards on average is Minnesota's Anthony Edwards. He goes at pick 7 on average. Dallas' Anthony Davis is next, going at pick 7.71 on average.

Those two are two very different fantasy assets. Of course, Edwards is a guard, while Davis is a center/power forward.

Edwards is a guy who plays nearly every night, so that definitely works in his favor. He averaged more points, assists and steals, while Davis topped him in rebounds and blocks. Davis is the better shooter overall, but Edwards has the better marks from 3-point land and the free-throw line.

I personally prefer guys who play every night, and that's Edwards in this case. Davis is just a bit too injury prone when comparing the two guys for the possible No. 6 pick.

The final three picks to round out the top 10 are Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis, LA Lakers' LeBron James and Detroit's Cade Cunningham. I'm on board with all of the top-10 players on the ADP list, so I'll skip discussing other players until another story.

All three of those guys we just mentioned are pretty well-rounded players, so it gets tricky when trying to decide between them all.

Oddly enough, all three guys played exactly 70 regular season games a year ago. When thinking about the availability of some high-end players, 70 games is a good standard I look for.

Of that trio, Cunningham averaged the most points (26.1), assists (9.1) and blocks (0.8) and tied James with 1 steal a game. Cunningham also had the best free-throw percentage (84.6).

Sabonis led the trio in rebounds (13.9) and had the best field goal percentage (59) and 3-point percentage (41.7). The only thing James was tops in was steals, again tying Cunningham at 1 a game.

When comparing this trio side-by-side, I don't think it's really a fair argument. Cunningham is pretty easily the best fantasy asset of the bunch. His draft stock has been rising of late, but as mentioned before, he sits behind Sabonis and James. I'd personally take Cunningham eighth overall, and maybe even over Davis for the seventh spot.

The debate between James and Sabonis is a much closer one. What Sabonis lacks in points he makes up for with rebounds. James is also aging, and despite not showing a ton of signs of slowing down, that at least makes me pause for a second before wanting to take him.

I think that means I'd go with Sabonis over James at No. 9, leaving James to round out the first round (in a 10-team setup).
