Waiver Wire Options
Chicago’s Ayo Dosunmu and New Orleans’ Herbert Jones are the top-two biggest waiver wire additions.
Dosunmu has been added in 11.2% of leagues, bringing his total percentage to 68. Jones is up to 48% rostered after a recent 10% increase.
Across 29.1 minutes this season, Dosunmu is averaging 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks. He has 27 turnovers across 641 total minutes.
Those are pretty solid averages for Dosunmu, and the healthy amount of minutes makes him a streaming option in standard leagues most nights. His increase in own percentage is due to what he did in his team’s last game though.
Dosunmu went for 27 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, three steals and a turnover across 35 minutes. It was his fourth straight game scoring in double figures, and he set new season highs in assists and rebounds.
It’s hard not to immediately add Dosunmu after a performance like that, but there’s reasons behind the big performance. Lonzo Ball, and most importantly Coby White, both missed Thursday’s game with injuries, which put a bigger emphasis on Dosunmu.
White is dealing with an ankle sprain, and as long as he is out of the lineup, Dosunmu is a better fantasy asset. Chicago plays again Friday, so check the team’s injury report leading up to the game - if White is out and you have a roster/starting spot open, Dosunmu is worth a go I think.
Dosunmu’s fantasy value will likely dwindle when White is back, so keep that in mind. Dosunmu needs to be rostered in most deeper leagues, but is probably just off the standard league own line - he’ll need to deliver some more big performances for his own percentage to remain at its current mark.
Jones returned to the court on Thursday, so it’s easy to see why his own percentage shot way up. He’s played in just five games so far this season.
Across 28.6 minutes, Jones is averaging 7.8 points, 1.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 0.4 blocks. He has six turnovers across 143 minutes.
On Thursday, Jones had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals, a block and a steal across 31 minutes. There was no easing Jones back into things, and he showed his fantasy value with a well-rounded performance.
With the balanced stat sheet, Jones is another good deep-league option, even with a lower scoring average. If he can score around 10 points a game, and stuff the stat sheet with rebounds, assists, blocks and steals on a nightly basis, he’ll be a possibility in standard leagues.
At the very least, Jones needs to be picked up in deeper leagues. For those of you in standard leagues, Jones should be tossed on your watch list.
Drop Candidates
Toronto’s Ochai Agbaji, Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Washington’s Bilal Coulibaly are the three most-dropped fantasy players right now.
Agbaji is rostered in 53% of leagues after a recent 6.6% drop. Jaquez is down 5.2%, bringing his overall mark to 37%. Coulibaly is rostered in 52% of leagues after a 4.6% drop.
Agbaji is averaging 30.7 minutes per game this season. He’s also averaging 11.7 points, 2.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1 steal and 0.6 blocks a game. He’s got 21 turnovers across 706 minutes played.
Agbaji only played 21 minutes on Thursday, talling five points and two assists along the way. It was his first time below 30 minutes since November 27, when he scored 24 points.
Coming into Thursday, Agbaji had 33 points, eight assists, two steals and blocks and 13 rebounds across the previous three games combined. Usually I tell fantasy owners not to overreact to one down showing, but with a trend of low fantasy outputs, I get dropping Agbaji.
He’s another fringe standard league option, but should remain rostered in deeper leagues. When Agbaji heats back up, he could be added again in standard leagues, but this kind of up-and-down performance might continue all season. Watch his upcoming matchups and see when his next hot streak might kick in.
Jaquez is averaging 9.8 points, 2.4 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.1 blocks across 22.1 minutes this season. He has 22 turnovers across 331 minutes played.
Jaquez has been pretty underwhelming in his sophomore season. He’s a player to possibly stream when the Heat are down a couple players, but is otherwise just a bench player who is getting less than 20 minutes most nights.
Jaquez’s averages are still good enough to roster and play him in deeper leagues, but it might take a long-term injury, or two, for him to be a real standard league threat on a nightly basis - like he was for periods last season.
Determining whether or not to drop Jaquez really comes down to your league’s settings, and then your current roster. A lot of deep league teams might love to add Jaquez, while a stacked and top-end fantasy team might be ready to move on from him. Assess your current situation and react accordingly.
Coulibaly is averaging 12.1 points, 2.9 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks across 34 minutes a game. He has 36 turnovers across 612 total minutes.
Coulibaly started the season strong, scoring in double figures in seven of the first nine games. In the nine games since, he’s reached double figures only twice. Coulibaly has scored 17 points over the past four games after a 17-point outing back on November 24.
Coulibaly does fill up the stat sheet fairly well otherwise, but with it being such a struggle to even get close to 10 points a game right now, he’s losing value quickly in deeper leagues. He’s best suited for even deeper leagues right now, and if his scoring continues to struggle, I’d expect that own percentage to keep dropping.
He’s still playing a ton of minutes, so it’s tough to move on from him. If your roster can remain competitive without him, maybe stashing him on your bench for a bit longer is the best route. He’s still a young player, so these kinds of inconsistencies are going to pop up here and there. I’d try to be as patient as I could with him, because he was a good/great fantasy option on several nights early in the season.
This is another situation in which you really need to assess the league you are in and the fantasy team you currently have. I would prefer to keep Coulibaly on my team, but also understand if you need to move on to a better fantasy asset right now.
Best of luck with your roster moves and current fantasy matchups!
