Brandon Young Shines as Rotation Savior for Injury-Plagued Orioles

The fourth-place Orioles (29-33) have faced a major rotation crisis with Zach Eflin, Dean Kremer, and Cade Povich all sidelined on the injured list. Brandon Young has stepped up beautifully as the fifth starter, compiling an outstanding 1.45 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over his last 14 days (12.4 innings). This excellent run includes back-to-back quality starts, firmly securing his spot in Baltimore's starting five.

While Young’s recent 1.45 ERA is spectacular, his overall 4.18 season ERA and 1.47 WHIP suggest some regression is looming. Our projections expect him to settle closer to a 4.50 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. His high-80s strikeout projection highlights his ability to miss bats, but fantasy managers should prepare for minor ratio corrections once his strand rate normalizes.

Young is scheduled for one start this week, a June 5 road matchup against the Blue Jays. He will face a tough opposing pitcher in Trey Yesavage, who has a microscopic 2.19 ERA. Despite the difficult divisional matchup, Young's superb recent form makes him a highly usable option in deep formats. Verdict: Stream.
