The NBA Draft Lottery took place on Monday night, so now the first 14 picks of the 2025 NBA Draft are set.

Let's take a look at how the lottery shook out, and what it means for NBA franchises moving forward.

Mavericks Land Top Pick

Oh how lucky Dallas was on Monday. After trading away Luka Doncic this season, yet still making and winning a play-in tournament game, the organization ended up with the No. 1 pick.

You can argue that the results are rigged, but it is what it is. Dallas is officially on the clock.

With Kyrie Irving out for a large portion of next season, Dallas now has the chance to draft Cooper Flagg and be in playoff contention when Irving returns to the court. There's also the chance that Dallas trades the top pick away, especially if a top-end talent (like Giannis Antetokounmpo) is coming back in the deal.

Flagg still wouldn't have to be the team's No. 1 option until Irving returns because they have Anthony Davis. Having Davis, Irving and Flagg could put Dallas right back in title contention for next year.

Picks 2-5

The San Antonio Spurs got the No. 2 pick in the lottery. The Philadelphia 76ers got the third pick, and the Charlotte Hornets will pick fourth. The Utah Jazz will round out the top five.

The Spurs are in a great spot, with a budding superstar in Victor Wembanyama (if he can return from his deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder) and De'Aaron Fox.

San Antonio could use that pick to add a No. 3 option, at worst, or could trade the pick for a top-end talent.

The Spurs were on the outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference this season, but should be a playoff team next season. They could compete with the top teams in the West if they hit on the pick, or transaction involved with the pick.

The Sixers are in a good spot too, although injuries are always at the core of the team's upside.

Adding a top-three pick alongside Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George should help the Sixers contend in the Eastern Conference again next season. The team will need to stay healthy, but adding another elite talent to the mix will only help their cause. I see Philly sticking with the pick instead of trading it away.

Charlotte had the third-worst record in the league, so even falling to No. 4 is a disappointment. There was a chance to add a real difference maker, and now Charlotte is outside the top-three picks.

There's still talented players that the Hornets could draft of course, but I think most in Charlotte are disappointed today.

If the Hornets connect on their pick, their future outlook will improve a bit. They could be a sleeper playoff contender next year if they stay healthy and win the offseason.

The Jazz had the worst record in the league, so getting pick No. 5 is a major loss.

There's some talented young players in Utah, but adding Flagg to the mix would have really been a boost for the franchise. Now they have to hope they hit on this pick, and probably still have a couple more years of rebuilding to do before they will seriously compete in the West.

The Other Lottery Picks

The Washington Wizards will pick sixth in the upcoming NBA draft. They had the second-worst record in the league, so the lottery was not kind to them.

They are a few players away from competing I think, and now they have to hope they hit on this pick to keep their outlook moving upward.

The New Orleans Pelicans will pick seventh. They had the fourth-worst record this season, so it was another blow to a franchise looking for some positives.

New Orleans seems like they are a ways out of the picture in the West, so I'm really interested to see how the team approaches this draft pick, and the offseason in general.

The Brooklyn Nets will pick eighth in the draft. They were the sixth-worst team this season, so they didn't lose too much ground in the lottery.

They have less room for error with a pick at that spot though, and their future doesn't look any brighter after landing that draft pick.

The Toronto Raptors will pick ninth in the draft. They were the seventh-worst team, so again, the lottery cost them a couple spots.

I like some of the players the Raptors have, and if they can hit on this pick, there's a chance Toronto could push for a playoff spot next season. Don't forget that Brandon Ingram could also be joining the mix next season.

The Houston Rockets have the 10th pick - they got that pick from the Suns. That's a valuable pick to have for a team that was in the playoffs, and has some bright, young stars to build around.

They could keep the pick and hope that player takes them up a tier, or package the pick and other assets to add more veteran talent to the team. Houston will be a team to watch this offseason, and a good offseason could put this team in the mix for a Western Conference title next year.

The Portland Trail Blazers will be picking 11th in the first round. They had the ninth-worst record, so they got hit a bit by the lottery too.

Portland has some pieces in place, but still could use a few more assets to work into playoff contention. I'll be interested to see if Portland uses this pick on a rookie, or uses it to land a player via trade. The Trail Blazers could make some noise in the West next year with a good offseason.

The Chicago Bulls landed in the No. 12 spot. They had the 13th-worst record last season, and were part of the play-in tournament, so I think this pick is a win for Chicago.

There's some questions the Bulls' organization needs to answer this offseason, but this pick could land them another good asset, or help them put together a trade package to bring in more help. The Bulls could work out of the play-in mix next season if they win the offseason and stay healthy during the season.

The Atlanta Hawks will have the No. 13 pick after a trade with the Kings. Atlanta was the No. 8 seed after the regular season, but lost both play-in tournament games and missed the postseason.

This pick should help the team add another good asset to the roster, which will get back Jalen Johnson next season. Atlanta could be a sneaky good team in 2025-26 if they make a couple good offseason decisions.

The final pick in the lottery belongs to the Spurs. Having that pick, along with the second overall pick, just adds more ammo for San Antonio.

They can package the 14th pick with another asset to add a good rotation piece, while still keeping the second pick. Or both the top-14 picks can be used to go after a big-time player.

Final Thoughts

There were plenty of lottery winners and losers on Monday.

The Mavericks and Spurs are in great positions heading into the offseason now. The 76ers are also set up pretty well.

Teams like the Jazz, Wizards, Hornets and Pelicans came away as losers, and maybe were set back another year in their rebuilds.

We'll have plenty of offseason NBA coverage here at FantasySP, so check back often for more!
