Outlook Brandon Sproat
Struggling Sproat faces managerial heat and a hazardous trip to Coors Field
Sproat has struggled mightily of late, posting a dismal 10.98 ERA over his last 4.1 innings, which prompted manager Pat Murphy to publicly warn that the team won't tolerate many more duds. Despite these struggles, injuries to rotation mates Brandon Woodruff and Logan Henderson keep Sproat active as the number four starter for the first-place Brewers. His roster spot is safe for now, but his grip on a rotation turn is growing increasingly tenuous.
His current slide has ballooned his season ratios to a 6.62 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, which are far worse than our projected rest-of-season expectations of a 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. While his strikeout rate remains high with 52 strikeouts in 46.2 innings, his poor control has led to 27 walks and consistent traffic. Until he stabilizes his mechanics and limits free passes, his actual performance will continue to drift far below his true talent level.
Sproat's next start is scheduled for June 5th on the road against the Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field. Facing Colorado and Ryan Feltner under those altitude conditions is an incredibly risky proposition for a young pitcher searching for his command. Because of his current slump, extreme blowup risk, and the challenging ballpark environment, fantasy managers must keep him out of active lineups. Verdict: Sit.

Outlook Edward Cabrera
Blister injury sidelines Cabrera, but fantasy managers should hold tight for a June return.
Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list on May 24 due to a right middle finger blister, pausing his season with a fourth-place Chicago Cubs team that holds a 32-30 record. Prior to his injury, he had struggled over his last three starts, posting a 6.64 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 12.2 innings. With Jordan Wicks recalled to fill his rotation spot, Cabrera remains sidelined but is nearing a return.
While his recent three-start stretch was rough, our models suggest better days are ahead based on his 4.11 ERA over 10 starts this season and a career-best 3.62 ERA last year. His underlying metrics, including a solid 8.04 K/9 and 2.35 K/BB ratio, align closely with his 4.04 projected season ERA, indicating his recent struggles are a temporary blip rather than a permanent slide.
Although scheduled as a probable starter on June 6 against San Francisco, Cabrera is highly unlikely to pitch this week as he finishes his recovery. Fantasy managers should monitor his rehab progress closely, as he is expected to rejoin the Cubs' rotation in early June. For this week, keep him on your bench but hold him on your roster for his high-strikeout upside.
