Dynasty Fantasy Football Quarterbacks to Consider Adding: Michael Penix Jr., Malik Willis, Jordan Travis and Desmond Ridder

Morgan identifies some dynasty players maybe worth adding as the 2024 NFL season winds down.

The NFL regular season is winding down, which means redraft fantasy football leagues are almost wrapped up with.

As soon as the final game in week 17 (or week 18) is played, redraft owners can sit back and enjoy the NFL postseason. Dynasty owners, on the other hand, already have to start thinking about next season, whether that be offseason drafts or how to address their team in order to take the next step.

In this article, I wanted to take a look at some fantasy players to potentially add down the stretch. My thinking here is that your dynasty team is no longer competing for a title, or is just seeing some players hit IR, thus opening some roster spots.

We’ll start with the quarterback position, of course.

Quarterbacks to Possibly Add

Atlanta’s Michael Penix Jr., Green Bay’s Malik Willis, New York Jets’ Jordan Travis" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#player-pop-up" href="/nfl_player_news/Jordan_Travis/">Jordan Travis and Las Vegas’ Desmond Ridder are four quarterbacks to consider adding depending on the size of your dynasty league roster.

We’ll start with Willis, as he’s the one quarterback here who has played a good amount this season. Willis did some nice things while filling in for an injured Jordan Love, and several teams are probably interested in bringing him in to at least compete for the starting job next season.

Willis’ contract with the Packers goes through the 2025 season, so a trade would be needed in order for him to get moved. Willis has no future in Green Bay with Love locked in long term, so I’d expect Willis to get shipped out for a pick this offseason.

Instead of waiting for Willis to find a new home, why not add the quarterback now?

Penix has been a hot name of late with the recent struggles of Kirk Cousins. There’s still a chance Penix takes over as the team’s starter before the end of this season.

Atlanta is stacked with offensive playmakers, and that makes Penix’s fantasy outlook a bright one moving forward. He’s already 24 years old, so he’s not like your typical rookie quarterback and might be able to immediately step in and be an average fantasy QB, at least.

If Penix is available in your league, I think he’s definitely worth stashing, especially if you have some questions at quarterback going forward.

Travis is sort of a shot in the dark from me. He was a fifth-round pick of the Jets and was brought in to provide a little depth behind Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets have already been eliminated from the postseason, and with the team already looking to the future, it’d be the perfect time to see if Travis could maybe be their future at the QB position. The only problem is that Travis has spent the entire season on the reserve/non-football injury list.

It seems more and more likely that the Jets will move on from Rodgers after the season, and I think Travis could be in the running to be the team’s next starter. I also think it’s highly probable that the Jets bring in another quarterback, whether that be a veteran through free agency or a trade, or by drafting a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ridder is a pretty obvious choice. He’s set to take over the Raiders’ starting job for the stretch run after injuries to Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, so he might be able to help some teams down the stretch a bit (again, depending on how deep your dynasty is).

Ridder got 17 starts over the past two seasons with the Falcons before being moved to the Raiders before this season. Oddly enough, his first start with the Raiders in week 15 would be against the Falcons.

Ridder has a career 64% completion mark, including four games with Las Vegas this season. He has 15 touchdown passes to 12 interceptions and has rushed for 265 yards and five scores on 73 attempts.

Things didn’t work out for Ridder in Atlanta, but he’s got a great opportunity at the end of this season to either win the Raiders’ starting job for 2025, or at least put his name in the running to start with them, or somebody else.

If you have a roster spot to play with, why not add Ridder for the final few games. You might just pick up a possibly starting quarterback for the long haul.
