News & Notes: Dalvin Cook, DeVante Parker, Tyreek Hill & More

Mark Morales-Smith Jun 29th 3:17 AM EDT.

The NFL is slow this time of year as we wait for training camp to open in a few weeks, but there is still plenty going on that is flying under the radar. Here are some of the news, notes, and rumors you may have missed from the past week.

News, Notes, and Rumors

Miami Dolphins offer free agent running back Dalvin Cook a contract

A deal is not yet done, but the Dolphins have made Cook an offer. Both Cook and the team have expressed interest in joining forces for the 2023 season. We do not yet know how much the deal was for, however, Cook has since turned down a meeting with another unnamed team that some have speculated may have been the New York Jets.

New England Patriots give veteran wide receiver DeVante Parker a three-year extension

The Pats extended Parker this week on a three-year $33 million deal with $14 million guaranteed. There was talk that Parker may be cut for cap reasons if the team were to sign DeAndre Hopkins. Some have speculated that this means that Hopkins won't be joining the Pats while others believe this extension was done because Hopkins is on his way and this was a way to both retain Parker and sign Hopkins.

Questions still surrounding Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill's legal situation

Last week we found out that Hill had allegedly assaulted a marina worker and had been arrested by the Miami-Dade police department. Soon after we found out that charges would not be filed against the star wideout. However, since then we have learned that the alleged victim will in fact press charges against Hill. This situation is very much up in the air and we have no idea how it's going to play out as of now. It is a situation to keep an eye on heading into the fantasy season. There is a chance nothing happens, but there is also a chance he faces a suspension at some point. Based on the Alvin Kamara situation if there is some sort of discipline from the league it could stretch out until the 2024 season. Right now this is nothing, nevertheless, it could become something in a hurry.

More suspensions looming due to gambling protocol violations

It sounds like there is another round of suspensions coming due to violations of the gambling protocol. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter a handful of players are looking at a year-long suspension. The only name that is floating out there as of now is Indianapolis Colts' returner, Isaiah Rodgers. This is something for fantasy owners to watch.

Gardner Mishew could be the Week 1 starter for the Indianapolis Colts

Reports out of Indy say that Minshew may be the favorite to start Week 1 over first-round rookie Anthony Richardson. If you ever watched Richardson play this would make all the sense in the world. He's clearly not NFL-ready. This could have massive fantasy implications as Richardson is viewed as having the most upside in this rookie class.

Rookie running back Devon Achane was a minicamp standout

Reporters raved about Achane at the Dolphins' camp. Most people around the team believe he could quickly earn himself a significant role in the receiving game. He looks far more explosive than any other backs in their crowded backfield.

Brock Purdy is to begin throwing again very soon

We continue to get good news surrounding Purdy's recovery from offseason UCL surgery. He is ahead of schedule and will start throwing very soon if he hasn't already. In a bit of a surprising turn of events, it also sounds like Sam Darnold is beating out Trey Lance for the QB2 job in San Francisco.

Cordarrelle Patterson will return to a role similar to his breakout 2021 campaign this season

This makes sense with Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier both in Atlanta now. It sounds like Patterson could still retain a good amount of PPR value. There is even a chance this could be a good thing for his fantasy value if they now spread him out wide more.

Romeo Doubs emerging as the WR1 in Green Bay

This is also what we heard last year prior to Christian Watson breaking out. However, it is clear that he and Jordan Love are close. Love has targeted him often in camp and Doubs continuously speaks highly about love to the media. This could be a battle to watch this summer.
