Week 15 Waiver Wire Quarterbacks
QB Taylor Heinicke, Washington Commanders (16.95% Owned)
The Commanders’ starting quarterback had a great game in Week 13. He completed 65.9% of his passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns without turning the ball over against the New York Giants. While the game ended in a tie, Heinicke carried the Commanders’ offense to a solid performance and Washington is still in the postseason race. At the moment, he remains available in more than 80% of fantasy football leagues. The Commanders saw their season turn around when Carson Wentz was replaced by Heinicke. If you are in need of a quarterback heading into the fantasy football playoffs, Heinicke could be your man, especially with Terry McLaurin returning to form, Curtis Samuel playing well as a gadget-type of guy, and Jahan Doctson performing as a real touchdown threat. Not to mention, the running game with Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson has really opened up the field for the passing game.
QB Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers (14.58% Owned)
With Jimmy G out of the picture for the remainder of the season, Brock Purdy has taken over at quarterback for San Francisco. He had a strong game against the Buccaneers, where he completed 76.2% of his passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Purdy’s season totals have moved to a completion percentage of 67.2%, 461 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in two games. “Mr. Irrelevant” of this year’s NFL Draft is making his presence felt for the 49ers who have been ravaged by injury at quarterback since the season began. It certainly helps that the third-stringer has Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel (though he may be hurt), Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle at his disposal. With Kyle Shanahan calling plays, Purdy is definitely a quarterback worthy of a roster spot at this point of the season.
Week 15 Waiver Wire Tight Ends
TE Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars (54.96% Owned)
Evan Engram blew up on Sunday and had a massive game at tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 11 catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns. This brings his 2022 season totals up to 53 receptions for 548 passing yards and four touchdowns. To be clear, Engram has defied the critics and expectations this season. Over the last few years, his time in New York simply hasn’t worked out. Following his rookie season in which he was fairly successful, New York fans began to sour on him because of his freakshily-high drop rate. This is why a fresh start in Duval Country is just what the veteran tight end needed. With his new team in 2022, Engram has re-emerged as a force at tight end. He had one of the best games of his career yesterday, and he could produce big numbers again in the weeks to come, especially as Trevor Lawrence is heating up.
TE Irv Smith, Minnesota Vikings (12.11% Owned)
Vikings’ TE Irv Smith caught four passes for 28 yards this Sunday. This season, Smith has combined for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Though the Vikings are a team that runs the ball through their star running back Dalvin Cook or throws to their star wideout Justin Jefferson, Irv Smith is the team’s best available tight end and he is due for a trip to the end zone imminently. Right now, he is available in approximately 90% of fantasy leagues.
