Fantasy Basketball Takeaways From Draymond Green's New Deal

There were just a couple NBA transactions made in the past two days, but one is definitely big enough to mention, so let's discuss that signing, and a small trade.

Green Re-Signs With Golden State

Draymond Green is back with the Warriors for at least one more season. He signed a one-year pact worth $27.7 million.

He was expected back in Golden State, but he opted out of the same offer earlier this offseason to give the team flexibility to chase after LeBron James and others. After the Warriors struck out, Green re-signed for the same price in Golden State.

Green has been in the NBA for 14 years now, logging 949 total games. He played in 69 contests last season, averaging 8.4 points, 5.5 assists and rebounds, 0.9 steals and 0.6 blocks over 27.5 minutes a night. Green shot 41.8% overall, 32.6% from 3-point land and 70.2% at the free-throw line.

He's not the player he used to be, and his averages are down. I wouldn't expect him to improve in too many areas going into his age 36 season, but he's still doing enough for deep-league fantasy ownership/utilization, at least.

Green will start at power forward for Golden State, and likely play a similar amount of minutes to last year. I'd expect him to post similar stats, and be that solid deep-league fantasy asset, with streaming standard leagues upside at times.

Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos and Kristaps Porzingis are the other projected starters for Golden State. Al Horford, Yaxel Lendeborg and De'Anthony Melton are among the notable reserves.

There's some talent on the roster, and the team is a playoff contender in the Western Conference, but unless Curry or someone pops off in 2026-27, I don't see the Warriors being a legit threat to come out of the West. They've had a rough showing in free agency/this offseason, and it's likely going to mean another underwhelming season for Golden State.

There will be good fantasy assets on the team, and I like the upside of Lendeborg and other young players, but there's just not enough talent to go toe-to-toe with the conference's best teams. We'll see if Golden State does anything else this offseason to improve the roster in some fashion.

Back to Green though, the lack of high-impact players means that Green can still be a fantasy asset, as he'll play enough minutes. We'll see exactly where he's being drafted, but don't expect him to be anything too special as he nears the end of his career.

76ers Make a Trade

The small trade is the Philadelphia 76ers trading away Johni Broome and a second-round pick, getting cash considerations from the Los Angeles Clippers in return.

The deal allows the 76ers to sign LeBron and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, while staying under the first and second aprons. 

Broome wasn't expected to be a big asset for Philly in 2026-27, so getting off his contract is the bigger deal for the Sixers. 

When healthy, the Sixers are going to be powered by Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James and Joel Embiid. VJ Edgecombe is the other projected starter, and should be a good asset in the real world and for fantasy basketball.

The bench consists of Caldwell-Pope, rookie Labaron Philon Jr., Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade and Adem Bona among others. I think the bench could use some more guys yet, but that starting five is about as good as it gets.

Expect Philly to easily make the playoffs, even if they are resting players or dealing with injuries for most of the 2026-27 season. If healthy for the postseason, there's no reason the Sixers couldn't emerge out of the Eastern Conference. The Knicks will be a worthy opponent, and some others could be in the mix, but Philly is a top-two team, at least, in my eyes right now.

Also expect Philly to be active and aggressive with moves, whether that be yet this offseason, or during the coming season. They are going to go all-out for a title this season, so we'll see if the King and company can get the job done.

I don't see Broome doing too much in Los Angeles. He's likely to be buried on the bench. The bigger asset for the Clippers is likely going to be that second-round pick they acquired.

I see LA competing for a playoff spot, and with a bunch of picks to come in the future, the Clippers could rise as a Western Conference contender in time. They need more talent first though, but don't expect LA to be a bottom dweller, as there's enough talent on the roster right now.
