10-Team Categories Fantasy Basketball Mock Draft from 2nd Position: Victor Wembanyama, Tyler Herro and More
Morgan conducts his first fantasy basketball draft of the year, selecting second in a 10-team categories setup.
We take a break from fantasy football week 1 to do a fantasy basketball mock draft.
This mock was done through Yahoo. The categories league was a 10-team setup, and I got the No. 2 pick.
The stat categories were: field goal percentage, free throw percentage, 3-point shots made, points scored, total rebounds, assists, steals, blocked shots and turnovers.
The roster included: a point guard, shooting guard, guard, small forward, power forward, forward and two centers and utility spots. There were three bench slots.

Round 1 - Victor Wembanyama
After Nikola Jokic went first, there were a few options for the No. 2 spot, but I landed on Wembanyama
It's a bit of a risk after he's coming off a notable blood clot injury, but his upside is so much greater than anyone else when healthy that I just had to take him at No. 2.
He stuffs the stat sheet as good as anyone, and will be a player to build around. I'll be sure to protect him with my upcoming picks, although if I lose him, my season is probably toast anyways.
Round 2 - Jalen Williams
I grabbed Williams for my small forward slot, although he could slide to power forward too.
Williams will be a big help in the points department, and also added in some rebounds and assists. He has good shooting percentages, and hopefully will keep increasing his 3-point totals, like he has in his first three years.
Round 3 - Alperen Sengun
Sengun is a way to protect Wembanyama at the center spot.
He helps as a scorer and rebounder most, while also being an underrated asset in assists. Sengun has nice shooting percentages, and really only lacks as a 3-point shooter.
Round 4 - Tyler Herro
Herro finally gives me a guard to build around in round 4.
He averaged nearly 24 points and over five assists and rebounds last season, so those marks will all be helpful for this team. Herro has good shooting percentages and finally adds some reliable 3-point shooting to my squad.
Round 5 - Derrick White
White made it two straight guards for my mock team.
He averaged 16.4 points and over four assists and rebounds each last year, so he fills the stat sheet pretty well, and should do even more with Jayson Tatum out this coming year. He has solid averages, and gives me another decent 3-point threat.
Round 6 - Coby White
White makes it three straight guards for my mock team (see what I did there?).
He's another 20-point per game scorer, and adds 4.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds to the mix. He has OK shooting percentages, but adds another guy capable of knocking down three triples a night.
I feel good about my top-three guards after this pick.
Round 7 - Myles Turner
Turner is even more protection for Wemby at the center spot.
I think he's going to thrive in Milwaukee alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. He's a good source of points and boards, and adds in about two blocks a game, which is a stat I'm thinking is going to be a big plus.
Round 8 - Isaiah Hartenstein
I decided for another center here with Hartenstein - now I'm definitely set in case Wemby misses time this season.
Hartenstein was excellent in his first season with OKC, and is a double-double threat, while tacking on nearly four assists per game. He's an underrated fantasy asset in the mid-to-late rounds.
Round 9 - Kel'el Ware
Ware gives me another center option, but he'll fill my power forward slot to open the season.
He had a nice rookie season, averaging 9.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. I expect him to take on more, and produce more as he plays more than 22.2 minutes a night.
If Ware breaks out in year two, he could take this team from good to great.
Round 10 - Christian Braun
Braun was my pick in round 10 and filled my final starting spot (forward).
He broke out in 2024-25, averaging 15.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals. I expect Braun to keep improving, and he's another one who could elevate this mock team to the next level.
I love his value here in round 10.
Round 11 - Ausar Thompson
With my final three picks, I decided to fill voids in certain stats, but went with high-upside guys too. Thompson fit that criteria.
He improved in his second NBA season, and I expect even more from him in 2025-26. He's a solid all-around player, and if he takes off, I have a trade chip on my hands, with him or someone else in my starting lineup already.
Round 12 - T.J. McConnell
I went with McConnell in round 12. He'll likely play more and produce more as the Pacers are without Tyrese Haliburton this season.
McConnell already averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals, while shooting well overall. Upticks in all those marks makes him a value pick this late, and someone who could be used to upgrade at a different position, if needed later in the season.
Round 13 - Sam Hauser
Another player on a team missing a big-time player. Hauser could be the biggest recipient of minutes and production with Tatum out.
Hauser should play more, which will help him tack on to his previous season averages. He's a big 3-point threat, and a perfect guy to start often to excel in that stat.
Final Thoughts
I really liked my final product here for my first mock draft of the year. I was projected for the best finish in this 10-team mock draft.
Using 2025-26 projections, I was fourth in field goal percentage, fifth in free-throw percentage and points scored, third in 3-point makes, second in rebounds and steals, sixth in assists, first in blocks and the second-lowest in turnovers.
Using average stats from last season, I was fourth in field goal percentage, sixth in free-throw percentage, seventh in 3-point makes, ninth in points scored, fifth in rebounds and steals, last in assists, first in blocks and the second-lowest in turnovers again.
It makes sense why this past year's numbers are lower than my projections for the coming year. I took several guys on the rise, and then went after guys in favorable fantasy spots late.
Using Yahoo position eligibility, I have Herro, White (x2) and McConnell for point guards. It's not a super highly-regarded group, but there's enough well-rounded numbers in their games to help me feel confident at that spot.
I have Herro, White (x2) and Braun who are eligible at shooting guard. I feel even better about that spot than I do at point guard, but that has a lot to do with me loving Braun.
At small forward, I could go with Williams, Braun, Thompson or Hauser. This could be the position I have to go after on the waiver wire, or in a trade. Williams is capable of carrying me there, but my depth isn't the best after Braun.
Williams, Ware, Thompson and Hauser are all eligible at power forward. This is probably the position I'd be most worried about heading into the season. If Ware takes off like I expect him to, I should be able to mix and match at the position well enough to get by, but this feels like the biggest position of need.
I'm stocked at center with Wembanyama, Sengun, Turner, Hartenstein and Ware. I could look to trade from that spot before the season to go after a more reliable power forward. Heck, even trading Wemby could be on the table.
Overall, I really liked this mock and am already looking forward to the next one! Be sure to keep checking back with FantasySP in the leadup to the basketball season for more fantasy coverage.
