Outlook Coby Mayo

Coby Mayo's late-season power surge solidifies his everyday lineup presence

Mayo has caught fire over the past two weeks, slashing .306/.375/.500 with two home runs and eight RBIs over his last 14 games. With Luis Robert Jr. and Tyler O'Neill sidelined on the injured list, Mayo has cemented consistent playing time as Baltimore's primary designated hitter. Even with the fifth-place Orioles enduring a six-game skid at 69-75, Mayo continues to provide a vital power spark in the middle of the lineup.

His late-season surge marks a noticeable step forward from his full-season .222 batting average, though his 19 home runs on the year validate his immense raw power. Much of this sustained success stems from completely dominating left-handed pitching, where he maintains an OPS over 1.000 with prolific extra-base pop. While high strikeout totals hint at some batting average regression against right-handers, our models view his current power trajectory as legitimate.

Baltimore faces a six-game slate this week, opening with three home games against Cleveland before heading to Toronto. Mayo draws favorable matchups against Guardians southpaws Joey Cantillo (4.00 ERA) and Foster Griffin, followed by vulnerable Blue Jays starters Max Scherzer (6.03 ERA) and Spencer Arrighetti (5.12 ERA). Despite a tough weekend finale against Dylan Cease, Mayo's splits and power make him a high-upside play. Start.

Outlook Kazuma Okamoto

Kazuma Okamoto's power surge makes him a must-start option this week

Okamoto has stayed productive down the stretch, slashing .263 with two home runs over the last two weeks and adding a four-hit outburst over the weekend. Firmly entrenched as Toronto's everyday third baseman, he continues to propel a 72-72 Blue Jays squad that has won seven of their last 10 games to remain just one game out of a wild-card berth.

While our baseline models initially projected 16 homers, the slugger has completely shattered expectations by racking up 28 long balls and 81 RBIs. Even though his .233 batting average highlights some swing-and-miss tendencies, his sturdy .827 OPS over the past 30 days confirms this late-season power surge is no fluke.

A six-game week offers tremendous upside, beginning with a road series against Athletics starters Jacob Lopez (4.82 ERA) and Jack Perkins (6.82 ERA). The Blue Jays then return home for three games against Baltimore's hittable rotation, providing favorable matchups for the rookie slugger. Start.
