Hunter Greene continues elbow rehab with mid-July return on the horizon
Hunter Greene continues to recover from March arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. The fifth-place Reds (31-30) placed their flame-throwing right-hander on the 60-day injured list to start the year, and he is currently projected to remain out of the active rotation until mid-July. With no recent game activity, Greene's fantasy managers must continue to exercise patience while he progresses through his rehab program.
Prior to the injury, Greene was coming off a stellar 2025 campaign where he posted a 3.12 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over 109.5 innings. Our models project him for a 3.49 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP with 135 strikeouts once he returns to health. Given his historic velocity—frequently hitting triple digits—his upside remains elite, making him a highly valuable asset to stash rather than a regression risk.
The Reds' schedule this week features matchups against the Royals and Cardinals, but Greene will watch from the dugout as he is not scheduled to pitch. He remains owned in 71% of fantasy leagues but is started in virtually none as he works his way back. Do not drop him; continue to stash him in an IL slot. Verdict: Hold.

Outlook Justin Steele
Justin Steele Sidelined Indefinitely After Rehab Setback
Justin Steele has not pitched this season as he continues to recover from elbow surgery on the injured list. The fourth-place Cubs (32-30) are fighting to stay competitive, but they will have to proceed without their lefty anchor for now. Steele suffered a frustrating setback in late April that temporarily shut down his throwing program, leaving his return timeline completely up in the air.
When healthy, Steele is a premier ratio stabilizer, as evidenced by his superb 3.37 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 130.7 innings in 2024. Our models project him for a strong 3.67 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 100 strikeouts across 81.0 innings of work rest-of-season. However, until he resumes bullpen sessions, those numbers remain purely speculative.
Looking at the week ahead, the Cubs host the Giants for a weekend series, but Steele is nowhere near fantasy lineups. He remains a clear stash candidate in deeper leagues with open IL spots, but for now, he cannot help your active roster. Weekly Verdict: Sit.
