Top 3 Tight Ends to Target for Week 2
Week 1 is finally in the books and the Tight End position was a mixed bag for a lot of fantasy teams. Some stars did not show up, while a couple of under the radar players showed they are worth rostering and starting.
Guys like Jared Cook, George Kittle, and Ricky Seals-Jones should be on your radar as potential waiver wire targets at tight end.
1. Jared Cook (TE - OAK) 47% OWN
The number one waiver wire priority for tight ends should absolutely be Jared Cook. He had a monster Week 1 with 12 total targets for 9 catches and 180 yards recieving. He looked great and played extremely physical. Derek Carr went to him often and looked like he trusted him to make a play more so than any other reciever on the field.
In fact, Cook had the same amount of targets as the rest of the team's recieving/tight end core combined.
Cook will be a TE1 moving forward and should be owned and starting in all formats. Expect Cooper and Nelson to get more target share, but Cook will absolutely be in the mix and has the potential for big numbers.
He is the perfect replacement for injured Delanie Walker.
2. George Kittle (TE - SF) 66% OWN
The San Francisco 49ers had a very tough matchup against the Minnesota Vikings but still managed to show very promising signs in the passing game. Kittle was a step or two short of a monster game.
Kittle finished Week 1 with 9 targets for 5 catches and 90 yards with no touchdowns. He could have easily topped 100 yards and had a touchdown and seems to be the clear favorite for Jimmy Garoppolo as he led the team in targets. The second closest guy was Pierre Garcon with 6.
Kittle should see plenty of opportunities moving forward and should be a favorite for Garoppolo, especially if Marquise Goodwin misses any time.
3) Ricky Seals-Jones (TE - ARI) 20% OWN
Let's be honest here, the Cardinals looked bad. Very few players are worth starting on the Cardinals except for David Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, and now Ricky Seals-Jones.
He was 3rd on the team in targets behind Johnson and Fitzgerald. Seals-Jones ended Week 1 with 6 targets for 3 catches and 19 yards. Not a very exciting stat-line but there is potential there for him since it is basically just him and Fitz to handle the load.
His ceiling is low, but he is still worth rostering if you need to add depth to your team or need an emergency start due to injury.
Other honorable mentions for potential pickups include the ageless Antonio Gates on the Chargers and Austin Hooper on the Falcons. Both of which are owned in roughly 20% of leagues.
