NBA Market Sleepers Recap

Dorian Finney-Smith, Brooklyn Nets

After a disastrous start to the week in which in two games Finney-Smith totaled two points, five boards, and three assists in 37 minutes, he did manage to bounce back in his next two games to salvage the week. In those two games, he totaled 27 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and seven steals in 75 minutes. In his final game of the week he scored just five points, but at least grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists. Still, we are starting not to trust this Nets team because they are doing a lot of weird stuff with their lineups and randomly resting players even benching them in games. It’s time to move on from this situation.

What to do: SELL

Dennis Smith, Charlotte Hornets

Smith has continued to outproduce his price point. He bookended the week with subpar scoring games, but still contributed in other areas. In his first and last games of the week, he only scored a total of nine points but racked up nine rebounds, 14 assists, two blocks, and two steals. In his other three games this week he scored 41 points and continued to tack on value elsewhere with 11 boards, 15 assists, two blocks, and six steals. The minutes and the production have still been there for Smith this week and with LaMelo out we don’t see them going away.

What to do: HOLD

D’Angelo Russell, Los Angeles Lakers

We took a big risk with D-Lo last week and it paid off in a major way. In three games he amassed 78 points, 15 rebounds, 20 assists, three blocks, and three steals. We rolled the dice and bought low hoping the reports were true that he’d return soon and it worked out great. His price will never be lower than what you got him at last week.

What to do: HOLD

Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers

Russ flopped on us this week and we’re going to have to move on from him. We all know he has the ability to explode in any game, but it seems like consistency won’t be there for him with the Clippers. He played just two games this week and failed to top the 23-minute mark. Even worse he failed to top the seven-point mark scoring just 14 with seven total rebounds, and 10 assists. While his upside was worth the risk we won’t just commit to a failed experiment.

What to do: SELL

Donte DiVincenzo, Golden State Warriors

DiVincenzo started off the week slow from a scoring standpoint but contributed elsewhere. In his first game of the week, he scored just seven points but added six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. In his next game, he saw limited minutes and flopped, but bounced back with a 20 points, 10 rebounds double-double. He also tacked on three assists, a block, and two steals in that one. He finished off the week with a 10-point game adding on three assists. With there still being no return date in sight for Andrew Wiggins we are willing to ride with DiVincenzo a bit longer.

NBA Market Place Replacements

We have two sleepers to replace this week, and this is whom we’re looking at

Talen Horton-Tucker, Utah Jazz $1.14

THT had a massive week and a big reason for this was a significant spike in his minutes and shots. In the three games for March 7 to March 11, he scored 71 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and dished out 22 assists while playing 96 minutes and taking 56 shots. He also took 16 free throws. This is a nice bump considering on the year he’s averaged 18.5 minutes and eight shots per game. In his final game of the week, he did come back down to earth scoring just nine points, however, he still had six rebounds, and eight assists in 27 minutes. We want to see if he continues to see these extra opportunities.

Buddy Hield, Indiana Pacers $1.21

This price is too low for Hield even if he has underperformed a bit with Indy. He’s still outplaying this price tag and he always has those big upside games. In three games last week he scored 17 points twice and had one down game when he scored just seven. However, he chipped in with 22 rebounds in those three games and six assists, a block, and four steals. Even if he plays like he has been he’s worth this price. So we are going to roll the dice on him here and hope he spikes with a big-scoring game. He tends to have a couple a month so we’re hoping we get one this week.
