Outlook Nick Martinez
Nick Martinez targets a bounce-back to close out his two-start week.
Nick Martinez has hit a minor bump, posting a 4.46 ERA over his last two outings for the second-place Rays, who currently sit at 41-30 and are looking to break a three-game slide. Despite this recent uptick in runs allowed, the veteran remains a highly consistent presence in the number two spot of Tampa Bay's rotation.
While his 4.64 ERA over the last 30 days shows some regression, his stellar 2.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the season still easily outpace our rest-of-season projection of a 4.40 ERA. Expect some long-term correction toward his career baselines, but his excellent command keeps his floor high.
After taking a loss against the Dodgers on Monday, Martinez finishes his two-start week on Sunday with a highly favorable home matchup against Washington. Facing a weak Nationals lineup makes him an excellent option to close out the weekly matchup. Start him with confidence.
