Jorge Mateo's Hot Streak and Elite Speed Make Him a Premier Short-Term Option

Jorge Mateo is riding a hot streak for the first-place Braves, who lead the NL East with a 42-20 record and a two-game winning streak. Over his last 14 days, he is batting .304 with two homers and two steals, carving out regular playing time despite officially slotting behind Ha-Seong Kim on the depth chart. With several injuries thinning Atlanta's bench, Mateo has played in five of the team's last seven games.

While Mateo's .305 batting average this season is eye-catching, regression is likely coming for a hitter with a .221 career average. Our models project him to settle closer to a .221 average with a high strikeout rate over the rest of the season. However, his elite speed is legitimate, making him an excellent source of stolen bases while his bat remains hot.
