Calgary plays the opening verse of its AHL playoff campaign Wednesday night in Tucson - a best-of-three affair that will be played entirely in the Grand Canyon State; Brzustewicz, meantime, is one of a handful of Wranglers rookies keeping fit and in form back home. Originally selected by Vancouver in the 2023 NHL Draft, Brzustewicz's NHL rights were transferred to the Flames in January as part of the trade that brought Andrei Kuzmenko to Calgary.

In a season with several lows, Oliver Kylington was able to provide the Calgary Flames with arguably the biggest feel-good moment throughout the entire NHL. Kylington was able to make his return to the Flames blue line in late January. It served as his first NHL game since the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, as struggles with mental health forced him to miss the entirety of the 2022-23 season, as well as a good chunk of the 2023-24 campaign. It was a long wait but was all well worth it when he was announced as part of the starting lineup ahead of a game on January 25 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The team was effectively eliminated from the playoffs in early April and will not partake in any postseason games for the second consecutive season. The franchise has a litany of issues including goal scoring and consistent special teams performances, as well as underperforming, expensive players like Jonathan Huberdeau. Another big positive from 2023-24 was the rise in production from some of the team's veteran players.

When Jonathan Huberdeau first arrived in Calgary after an offseason trade with the Florida Panthers, fans believed that the team was in as good of shape if not better to contend for a Stanley Cup. Henry Harrington is quickly becoming a household name amongst Calgary Flames fans. Earlier in the season, Harrington was one of several kids who took part in a shootout at the Flames intermission. After making a tremendous move to find the back of the net, Harrington pulled off a hilarious and unique celebration that fans couldn't stop talking about. As it turns out, that wasn't the last we had seen from Harrington, as he was invited back to last night's Flames game to once again participate in a shootout during the first intermission.

Following last night's 5-1 win over the San Jose Sharks, the Flames announced that Dustin Wolf, Matt Coronato, Adam Klapka, and Ilya Solovyov had been assigned to the Calgary Wranglers. This will allow all four to play in the AHL playoffs. The 2023-24 season was an up-and-down one for the Wranglers, who had to deal with several of their top players getting called up to the Flames on numerous occasions throughout the season.

Blake Coleman scored his 30th goal and MacKenzie Weegar netted his 20th as the Calgary Flames beat the San Jose Sharks 5-1 on Thursday night in the season-ending game for both teams. Weegar had never had more than eight goals in a season. The jump to 20 tied the 30-year-old for third among blueliners behind only Roman Josi (23) and Cale Makar (21). More impressive for Calgary coach Ryan Huska, Weegar became the first NHL player to score 20 goals while also blocking 200 shots.

The next time the San Jose Sharks play a game, Macklin Celebrini might be in the lineup. The Sharks on Thursday allowed two goals in the first period and three more in a span of 3:03 in the second in what became a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Calgary Flames in the last game of the regular season for both teams. Fabian Zetterlund scored with nine seconds left in the third period off assists from Mikael Granlund and Collin Graf. The goal was Zetterlund's 24th of the year and the assist extended Granlund's season-ending point streak to 13 games.
