Eagles
The Eagles have a few notable IDP targets, led by linebacker Zack Baun. Reed Blankenship is another pretty highly-regarded IDP asset.
Baun is projected to start alongside linebackers Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt and Nakobe Dean. Rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell will also factor in plenty.
Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo are the projected starters on the defensive line. Kelee Ringo, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are the top corners, while Blankenship and Sydney Brown are the safeties.
There's decent depth at every group, and rookies Ty Robinson (d-line), Andrew Mukuba (safety) and Mac McWilliams (corner) are young options. Add in rookie linebackers Smael Mondon Jr. and Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. and you have a great starting unit and also long-term options if some players get too pricey to keep around.
I expect this to be one of the top defenses in the leagues, unless injuries absolutely decimate the unit.
Baun led the team last season with 151 combined tackles, with 11 going for losses. He also had an interception, five forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 3.5 sacks.
Dean had 128 tackles, including three sacks and nine tackles for losses. He had a pick, forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Blankenship finished with 78 tackles over 15 games. He had four interceptions, six passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
Smith had 6.5 sacks among his 42 tackles. He had eight tackles for losses, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.
DeJean had three fumble recoveries across 16 games played. He forced a fumble and had half a sack across his 51 combined tackles.
There's IDP assets all over the defense. Baun should lead the way and challenge for the top spot overall if he stays healthy.
Blankenship, Campbell, Smith, Carter and DeJean are all decent IDP assets at their positions. Mitchell is a solid corner option, and I like Mukuba to make a name for himself as the season wears on.
There might not be elite IDP options after Baun, but there's a ton of useful IDP guys on this defense, which again, should be an elite unit this year.
Commanders
The aging Bobby Wagner is still a really good IDP asset, and he leads the Commanders' defense. Frankie Luvu is another good IDP at the linebacker spot.
Dorance Armstrong, Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw and Von Miller are the projected starters on the Washington defensive line. Rookie Trey Amos, Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainristil are the corners, while Quan Martin and Will Harris are the projected starting safeties.
This defensive unit lacks the depth that the Eagles have, but there's a good starting group of players assembled, and if the unit stays healthy, it could be an above-average unit this season.
Wagner had 132 tackles to lead the team last year. He had 10 tackles for losses, two sacks, four passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble as well.
Luvu had 99 tackles, along with 12 tackles for losses and eight sacks. He added two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and pick and seven passes defensed.
Sainristil had 93 tackles, only one of which went for a loss. He had two interceptions, 14 passes defensed, a fumble recovery and fumble forced.
Martin finished with three forced fumbles, a pick and 87 combined tackles. Armstrong had five sacks among his 39 tackles and posted seven tackles for losses overall.
Harris was a free agent signing and should be a pretty solid IDP asset in Washington. The top IDP players should be Wagner and Luvu again though.
Sainristil and Martin are two more secondary IDP assets who should be in store for good seasons. I'll be keeping an eye on the rookie Amos too.
The Commanders don't have an elite-level defensive lineman, but a couple of the guys starting and playing enough snaps could be worth some looks in some deeper setups.
Cowboys
Micah Parsons is the top IDP in Dallas… for now at least. The defense could look a lot different depending on if Parsons stays in Dallas, and he'd be a big-time addition to any other team in the league.
Kenneth Murray and Jack Sanborn are a couple more IDP guys on most people's fantasy radars.
Parsons is a projected starter on the defensive line alongside Marshawn Kneeland, Osa Odighizuwa and Solomon Thomas, so that could be a strong unit at full health and with Parsons around. Add in second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku and you have a nice pass rush unit.
DeMarvion Overshown and Murray are the projected starting linebackers, but with Overshown banged up, Sanborn, Marist Liufau or Shemar James could factor in at linebacker.
Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland and Israel Mukuamu are the projected corners, while Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker are the safeties.
The team's depth is kind of underwhelming at this point, at least at most spots, so a Parsons' trade would likely only make things worse. There's enough talent around to make it a unit that gets by and keeps the team in some games.
Overshown had 90 tackles across just 13 games last season. He had eight tackles for losses, five sacks, a fumble recovery, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and an interception. He's not expected to return until the midpoint of the season, but he'll be a good option after that.
Wilson had 82 total tackles, with six resulting in losses. He had 4.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, a pick and two forced fumbles. Hooker had 81 tackles, but just three went for losses. He had five passes defensed and two interceptions.
Diggs led the way with 11 passes defensed, accomplishing that in just 11 games. He also had 42 total tackles and two interceptions.
Parsons had 12 sacks in 13 games. He had 43 combined tackles, with 12 going for losses. He also forced two fumbles.
I'm not super high on the Cowboys' defense, but Parsons should be the top IDP asset from the current group. We'll cover his IDP outlook if he ends up getting traded.
Repeating what I said before, but Overshown will be a waiver wire pickup as he nears a return, and could be a top-end option from that point on.
Murray and Sanborn are a couple IDP guys I like, while Wilson and Hooker are a bit underrated in the secondary. Bland and Diggs could stack up points at cornerback and be worthwhile IDP assets. Thomas is a defensive lineman to consider, as is Ezeiruaku.
Giants
New York might not be a very good team, but there's some solid IDP assets. Bobby Okereke and Tyler Nubin are atop the list, with Brian Burns not super far behind.
Okereke is expected to start alongside Micah McFadden at the middle linebacker spots. Rookie Abdul Carter and Burns are pass-rushing linebackers, while Roy Robertson-Harris, Dexter Lawrence II and Rakeem Nunez-Roches Sr. are the projected defensive linemen.
Nubin and Jevon Holland are the projected safeties, while Paulson Adebo, Deonte Banks and Dru Phillips are the corners.
There's decent depth assembled too, with rookie third-round pick Darius Alexander, Chauncey Golston and Kayvon Thibodeaux among the notable names.
McFadden led the team last season with 107 tackles, accomplishing that in just 14 games. He had eight tackles for losses, three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Nubin had 98 tackles in 13 games. Four of the tackles went for losses, and he also had a fumble forced and recovered.
Okereke totaled 93 tackles in 12 games. He had six tackles for losses, two sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Banks led the team with 12 passes defensed. He had no interceptions though. Banks had a forced fumble and 52 combined tackles.
Lawrence led the team with nine sacks. He had 44 combined tackles, with eight going for losses. Lawrence also had a forced fumble.
Burns had 8.5 sacks among his 71 tackles and 17 tackles for losses. He also forced two fumbles and had eight passes defensed.
I think this unit could surprise in 2025, but Okereke, Nubin, Burns and McFadden should lead the way. Holland is another good IDP option, as is Adebo in the secondary.
Lawrence, Carter and Thibodeaux are good pass-rushing options who would be worthwhile adds in some IDP leagues. I'm surprised Carter isn't higher on IDP lists, but he could emerge as a pass-rushing star right away.
