We’re getting down to the wire with fantasy playoffs beginning. It is imperative to pick the right lineups over the next few weeks. Everything matters: matchups, playing time, injuries, form, and more. This is where the rubber meets the road. Let's take a look at the players who are getting those all-important red zone looks at this all-important part of the season.

The NFL still has over a month left to play, but fantasy football leagues are entering the playoffs. In some ways, fewer of you may be paying attention now than earlier in the season, unless you are in a Dynasty league and scouting for next season. But unlike other sports, where you can target a prospect, realistically, you’re more interested in your draft slot and focused on college bowl games.

If we study the split of red zone opportunities between receivers and running backs each week, we see that RBs do get the lion's share of activity inside the 20-yard line. This week, there were only 12 receivers who were targeted two or more times in the red zone. The highest amount was three targets, and only two receivers achieved that: Josh Downs and Deebo Samuel. Conversely, there were 26 RBs who had at least two red zone touches. This means finding a receiver who sees consistent red zone work is huge, while there may be lots of running backs with high touchdown upside each week. Let's see who dominated the red zone in Week 12 using FantasySP's red zone tool.

Fantasy Football Snap & Target Report Week 12
Fantasy Football Target Leaders
Keenan Allen has been an absolute monster for the Chargers. Unfortunately, he’s been the only bright spot on the team. For the season, he’s been in on 660 snaps, while no other receiver has had over 400 snaps. He’s been targeted 129 times this year, which is three times more than any other receiver. The lack of options has telegraphed their offense, which is making it harder for Justin Herbert and easier for opposing defenses.

Football, more than any sport, is so determined by injuries. A team’s record, whether or not they make the playoffs, and an individual player’s opportunities to get into a game can change week to week based on injuries. One week, a player can be targeted 12 times, but see his playing time cut in half the next week when an injured player returns. This is often the case around the goal line as well. We can use the FantasySP Red Zone Tool to stay on top of trends in this all-important area of the field for fantasy football.

It’s difficult to cross sports when it comes to giving examples, but I’ll try. The NBA has 80 games, so a random regular season game on a Tuesday doesn’t mean as much as every regular season game in the NFL. An NBA team has five players on the court and may field nine or ten players throughout the season, but when the playoffs approach, the team’s bench tightens up, and only seven or eight players see the court.

There were five receivers who had at least three red zone targets this week. Some are very familiar names, while a couple of others haven’t been used nearly as often.

Barring injuries, as the season wears on, teams tend to lean on their “go-to” guys. Wins become more precious, and coaches need to rely on the guys they can trust, so many of these names are familiar and pop up week after week. Let's take a look at some players who are putting their teams on their backs in this week's snap and target report.
