Eagles elect to punt on 4th-and-5 at the WAS49. Only a net of 29 yards. Hurts went 1 of 3 on the opening drive. (A penalty that moved chains is not reflected in those numbers.) Miles Sanders rushed 3 times for 11 yards.

A.J. Brown said he purchased the Batman cape the WRs were wearing on the #Eagles sideline today off of Amazon for .99 cents. Darius Slay, a few weeks back, had named Brown "Swole" Batman, DeVonta Smith "Skinny" Batman and Quez Watkins "Fast" Batman. "Just a little cheap cape."

Landon Dickerson is active. #Eagles will have their full offensive line.
#Eagles CB Darius Slay said it was cramps that kept him out for a short stretch in the first quarter. "It ain't no thing."
"I told you he was close to blowing up!" Nick Sirianni's prediction that Haason Reddick was close to having a breakout game proved true, and he wasn't exactly humble about it. pic.twitter.com/gbe12lXYKT

The Eagles know better than anybody that pressuring Carson Wentz early in games can lead to enormous dividends for the opposing defense.
Philadelphia is sending a message to their former No. 2 overall pick, as Fletcher Cox has two sacks, including a scenario where he and Javon Hargrave combined for back-to-back sacks on the Commanders quarterback
Quez Watkins is held on that deep pass. Second time today Washington has had to hold Watkins to prevent a big play. #Eagles
#Eagles with a goal line stand on 4th down Another dominating game for Jonathan Gannon's defense
#Eagles inactives for Commanders game: QB Ian Book S Reed Blankenship RB Trey Sermon DE Janarius Robinson G Josh Sills Rookie TE Grant Calcaterra will suit up for his first NFL game.
Javon Hargrave with the sacks. Brings the total on the day up to 3 sacks on 6 plays. #Eagles

When I told Brandon Graham on Wednesday "you'll be reaching for the ball this week," he said, "I'm ALWAYS reaching for the ball."

Washington scores -- on a safety. Daron Payne drops Boston Scott in the end zone. Shutout averted. 24-2.

Wentz on facing the Eagles: "It was surreal pre-game seeing a lot of the guys." ... He swapped jerseys with Eagles C Jason Kelce after the game. "He means the world to me," Wentz said. Talked about how much Kelce helped him as a player & friend

The Eagles released their inactive list for their first NFC East contest of the season against the Commanders, and rookie safety Reid Blankenship is among five players who won’t dress on Sunday.
Ian Book (QB), Reed Blankenship (S), Trey Sermon (RB), Josh Sills (OL), and Janarius Robinson (DE) are healthy scratches for Week 3.
Book is the third quarterback on the roster, while Blankenship is not ready despite his strong presence on special teams. With Grant Calcaterra now ready and active, the team did not elevate practice squad tight end Noah Togiai
More pressure than the Eagles would like to allow on that opening drive. Drive stalls out when Hurts is flushes to his right, can't hit Watkins. Arryn Siposs then punts into the zone from the 49 for a 29-yard net on 4th and 5.
The day is finally here: #Eagles vs. Carson Wentz, Pt 1 #🿠audacy.com/94wip/sports/e…
Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr., who was shot twice during an armed robbery attempt less than a month ago, is out here running routes. 🤯 pic.twitter.com/7wOHWeDaY3
Josh Sweat and Fletcher Cox split sack on 3d and 5. Jordan Davis batted Carson Wentz pass was key on first down after 18-yard Curtis Samuel end around. Good start for #Eagles defense.
Just saw the best nickname for Commanders rookie WR Jahan Dotson: "Jahan Solo." Credit @CharlieMule_PR for that one.
Antonio Gibson just lost 10 yards on 2nd and goal from the four. The Commanders trail 24-0.
OK this is getting really ugly. Wentz threw two incompletions — a short one for John Bates that hit the ground, and a deep one that overshot Terry McLaurin — and then fumbled. The ball was knocked out of his hand as he pulled back to throw.
#Commanders CB William Jackson, who was questionable coming in, is inactive today, source said.
The Commanders' OL and QB share blame for the sacks today (Sam Cosmi didn't have his best game) ... but here are all 9 of them if you want to relive that experience: pic.twitter.com/8N2rOt3U35
The Commanders CBs today: Kendall Fuller Benjamin St. Juste Christian Holmes (2022 7th rounder) Rachad Wildgoose (signed after cut down day) Tariq Castro-Fields (signed after cut down day)
Hard to undersell Kam Curl's return today. Smart, experienced defender. When in box gives Cole Holcomb someone he knows and trusts. Less hesitation (in theory). At times Holcomb and box S have to play off one another. Better 3 safety sets now too.
Hasson Reddick just picked up and dropped John Bates. Not sure what came before. no penalty?
In Dallas' defense, he shouldn't be asked to block Daron Payne. #Eagles twitter.com/Jeff_McLane/st…
For today: a good chance DE James Smith-Williams and LB David Mayo can play. There's more concern now with CB William Jackson (back). Pregame warmups will be key for all.
CB Rachad Wildgoose, who was claimed will start in place of William Jackson, and DE Efe Obada will start for James Smith-Williams.
Charles Leno on the offense's slow start, again: "It's like we were constipated. We couldn't get shit going."
Jackson will be inactive today. Back injury issue stems from Lions game; flared up more late in week. Benjamin St-Juste will play outside when in base or 3 safety sets. St-Juste has played well to start the season.
Nice blocks by Kelce and Seumalo leading the way on the Goedert TD. Also well done by Dickerson turning and tossing Jonathan Allen at the LOS.
Washington's inactives: QB Sam Howell CB William Jackson III G Chris Paul TE Cole Turner DT Daniel Wise DE Casey Toohill DE James Smith-Williams That D-Line is thinnnnnn

Commanders on 3rd and 1 go with the Jonathan Williams handoff. It worked. First 3rd down conversion of the game.
Along the DL: John Ridgeway, William Bradley-King and Benning Potoa'e combined for 51 snaps Sunday. None of them were on the active roster here a week ago.
Update: 4 of the 9 DL on the initial 53 are out today, replaced by: DT John Ridgeway (claimed off waivers this week) DE William Bradley-King (PS elevation) DT Benning Potoa'e (PS elevation) Expecting Efe Obada to start with JSW out. twitter.com/BenStandig/sta…
On the #Commanders D-Line: Efe Obada likely will start for James Smith-Williams but he is going to have to play a lot of DT today too. That means plenty of Shaka Toney and William Bradley-King today. They'll also have newly-signed John Ridgeway and Benning Potoa'e playing at DT.
The Washington Commanders are shorthanded along the defensive line ahead of their Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis was lost for the season two weeks ago, while defensive tackle Daniel Wise and defensive end Casey Toohill will miss Sunday’s game with injuries.
So it’s no surprise that Washington elevated two defensive linemen from the practice squad.
The Commanders brought up defensive tackle Benning Potoa’e and defensive end William Bradley-King for Sunday’s game. Potoa’e was signed to the practice squad earlier this month, while Bradley-King was a seventh-round pick by Washington in 2021. Bradley-King played in three games in 2021, recording 0.5 sacks
Look for Commanders DE Shaka Toney to take on a bigger role. Toney is a Philly native — from West Philly, was a standout at Imhotep Charter before going to Penn State.
