Detroit Lions Players
Jared Goff Prop Bets
Goff enters the week 17 matchup with average lines of 259 passing yards and 1.5 passing touchdowns. Goff is 8-6 against both of those lines this season (using DraftKings as the operator, which I will be doing the rest of this article).
His matchup against the Cowboys defense is a pretty tough one. Dallas allows an average of 199.6 passing yards and 1.3 passing touchdowns.
Goff has gone over 259 yards seven times this season - he missed that mark by 2 yards last week. He’s thrown multiple touchdowns in eight contests, but has failed to do so in two of the past three games.
I agree with the over/under line in that it will be a high-scoring game. I think both offenses will have their ways and sling the ball around quite a bit.
Verdict: The Lions have a great 1-2 punch in the backfield, but I still like Goff to go over 259 passing yards and 1.5 passing touchdowns in this one.
Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery Prop Bets
One of the Lions’ running backs is Gibbs, who has an average line of 80.5 total rushing and receiving yards for week 17. Gibbs is 7-6 against this stat for the season, but has gone over in three straight games.
Montgomery’s average line for total rushing and receiving yards this week is 66.5 yards. Montgomery is 9-3 against this stat this season and has gone over in three straight weeks.
Gibbs has tallied 81 or more total yards in eight contests this season, including the past three. Montgomery has had 67 or more total yards in all but two games this season.
Verdict: The defensive stats suggest to take the under for both Detroit backs, but they’ve been consistently involved all season and the Dallas defense has been a bit shaky of late. I see Gibbs doing enough as a pass catcher to go over 80.5 total rushing and receiving yards and see Montgomery getting enough touches to go over 66.5 total rushing and receiving yards.
Sam LaPorta Prop Bets
LaPorta comes into the week 17 matchup with average lines of 50.5 receiving yards and 4.5 receptions. The rookie TE is 8-6 against his receiving yard lines this season, while going 8-5 against his reception lines.
LaPorta has tallied 51 or more receiving yards seven times this season - he’s only hit that number twice over the past three weeks and twice over the past seven games. The tight end has five or more grabs on eight occasions - LaPorta has reached that mark once over the past three weeks.
Verdict: Between Gibbs and Montgomery, wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown and LaPorta, there’s a lot of mouths to feed in this Detroit offense. I think LaPorta will be involved, but I don’t think it will result in a big game, so I’m taking under 50.5 receiving yards and 4.5 receptions.
Dallas Cowboys Players
Dak Prescott Prop Bets
Prescott has average lines of 283.5 passing yards and 2.5 passing touchdowns for week 17. Prescott is 9-6 against his passing yard lines and 8-7 against his passing touchdown lines.
Prescott has eclipsed 284 passing yards five times this season, with the last coming four games ago. He’s thrown three or more touchdowns on five occasions, last doing so also four weeks ago.
While the Lions’ defense excels in stopping running backs, opposing quarterbacks usually perform quite well. QBs are averaging 254.7 passing yards and 1.6 passing touchdowns per game.
Verdict: I already mentioned that I think this is a high-scoring game, and the Dallas run game has been pretty nonexistent all season. I see Prescott needing to pass quite a bit to move the ball, and I see him going over 283.5 passing yards and 2.5 passing touchdowns this week.
CeeDee Lamb Prop Bets
Prescott’s favorite target is Lamb, who has average lines of 100.5 receiving yards and 7.5 receptions. Lamb is 8-7 against his receiving yard lines this season, while going 6-8 against his reception lines.
Lamb has gone for 101 or more yards on seven occasions this season, including last week. He’s had eight or more catches on just five occasions, and hasn’t hit the mark in three straight games.
Verdict: I see Lamb going over 100.5 receiving yards, but going under 7.5 receptions. He’s going to be a focal point for the Lions’ defense, which will keep him below the reception line, but Lamb will make a couple long receptions to go over the yardage mark.
Tony Pollard Prop Bets
Pollard comes into week 17 with an average line of 75.5 total rushing and receiving yards. The Cowboys’ lead back is just 5-10 against this stat for the season, and has gone under the past two weeks.
The matchup with the Lions is a tough one, as Detroit’s defense only allows opposing RBs to average 58.9 rushing yards and 30.5 receiving yards per contest.
Pollard has had 76 or more total yards in eight games this season, but missed it the past two contests.
Verdict: While Pollard will see most of the touches in the Dallas backfield, he hasn’t been all that involved as a pass catcher of late. The Lions have been stout against the run most of the year, so combining those couple things, I’m taking Pollard to go under 75.5 total rushing and receiving yards.
