Weekly Fantasy Basketball Projections: One Player to Target at Every Position

A new week is here, and that means it's time to go over a fantasy basketball player at each position that I like for the coming week.

I used the FantasySP weekly projections page to identify the players. Let's get right to it!

Point Guard - Ty Jerome

Jerome is projected for 24.1 fantasy points for the week. 

He has four games scheduled. Jerome plays Minnesota on Monday, Sacramento on Wednesday and Portland on Friday and Saturday.

Jerome hadn't played yet this season, but returned to action on the final day of January. In a start and 19 minutes, Jerome produced 20 points, six assists and one rebound and steal for the Grizzlies.

In time, we should see Jerome's playing time increase. However, his first game was a great start for the guard.

Memphis is dealing with a number of injuries right now, so Jerome could have a big role right away. If his minutes increase over the next few games, you potentially have a big fantasy asset on your hands.

Jerome is owned in 48% of leagues, which is up from 25% on the day he played his first game. He could be a quick riser, so act quickly if you want Jerome on your squad.

Consider him a deep-league waiver wire add immediately, while maybe streaming him in standard leagues too. I'd maybe hold Jerome if I decided to stream him in standard leagues, at least until his production dips. There's a chance he sticks as a good fantasy asset though, so just hold him as long as you can.

Shooting Guard - Bennedict Mathurin

Mathurin is projected for 24.4 fantasy points this week.

He has four games as well. Mathurin plays tonight against Houston, tomorrow against Utah, Friday against Milwaukee and Sunday against Toronto.

Mathurin missed most of the month of January, but played the final three games of the month. He delivered 16, 15 and 14 points in those three contests.

Mathurin also had 15 rebounds, six assists and one steal in that three-game stretch. He got up 10 shots in two of the games, then just six in the other. Mathurin has attempted 15 free throws in that short stretch, and he's made all but one of them.

He might not be starting right now, but he's playing and producing enough to consider in more fantasy leagues. Mathurin is rostered in 80% of fantasy leagues, which is up from January 26, which is when he returned to the court.

He should already be rostered in all deeper leagues, and he's a guy to stream in standard leagues, or hold until his production dips. Mathurin likely isn't going to be a player to hold forever in standard leagues, but in short stints, he could be a helpful fantasy asset.

Small Forward - Kelly Oubre Jr.

Oubre is set for 25.2 fantasy points for the coming week.

Oubre has four games as well this week. He takes on the Clippers tonight, Warriors tomorrow, Lakers on Thursday and Suns on Saturday.

Philadelphia is dealing with the 25-game suspension for Paul George, so the Sixers are looking for players to step up. Oubre showed he could be a big help in the team's last game.

In 30 minutes, Oubre delivered 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. He took 13 shots, and the double-double was his third of the season.

Of course before that, Oubre had only tallied 11 points over the past two games combined, so he's not an obvious pickup choice. Down George and with four games on the schedule this week though, Oubre makes a lot of sense to add in my eyes.

He's averaging 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks over 32 minutes a game over 26 games (21 starts) this season. There's enough in there for deep-league usage all season, but probably not enough for constant standard league ownership.

Right now, Oubre is rostered in 79% of leagues. He was sitting at 72%, and George's suspension has lifted him that 7% or so.

Consider adding Oubre for the week, or at least until he cools off from his last game. He can be a sneaky-good fantasy asset, and that could stick with George out for a while.

Power Forward - Marvin Bagley III

Bagley is only set for 17.9 fantasy points for the coming week.

He's got four games lined up for the coming week. Bagley has a Tuesday test against the Knicks before playing the Pistons on Thursday, Nets on Saturday and Heat on Sunday.

Bagley missed the final five Wizards' games in January, but returned and started the team's first contest in February. He played under 19 minutes, but delivered 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal and block.

He's averaging 10.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.5 steals over 19.3 minutes a contest. Overall, those are pretty good numbers for the amount of time he's playing.

Bagley has played in 37 of the team's 48 overall games, so availability is a bit of a concern, and holds him back from being an even bigger fantasy asset. With three double-doubles and some good fantasy outings this season though, Bagley is a bit more valuable in fantasy leagues than he looks at first glance.

He's only rostered in 18% of leagues right now, with his absence of late playing a role in that. Bagley is a good deep-league option for now, and if he can play a few more minutes eventually, he has standard league streaming upside. 

What I'm getting at is that Bagley should be watched pretty closely by a lot of fantasy owners, even if he's only a deep-league pickup option for now.

Center - Daniel Gafford

Gafford is projected for 21 fantasy points this week.

He has just three games, playing Tuesday against Boston, Thursday against San Antonio and Saturday against San Antonio again.

Gafford is taking on more of late with Anthony Davis out of the mix with his injury. Gafford has started four of the past five games, and shown a bit more in two of his past three contests.

Gafford has scored 16 and 14 points in that three-game stretch, but also only scored five points in the other contest. He has 21 rebounds, four assists and a block combined over those three games.

On the season, Gafford is averaging 8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 0.9 assists and 0.7 steals over 21 minutes a game. He's shooting a great 62.6% from the floor.

Gafford has four double-doubles, and the chance to accomplish that feat is increased with Davis out of the mix. Again, this isn't a slam dunk add, but he does have some value to look into.

He's rostered in about 38% of leagues right now, so he's another deep-league waiver option only. He's ever so slightly on the rise over the past couple weeks, which makes sense after looking at a couple of his showings.

His own percentage rises and falls, so it appears he's being treated as a deep-league streaming option. I'm fine doing the same thing with him, especially for this week, where he only has three games. If he's delivering better numbers, that's when I'd consider just holding him, instead of adding/dropping him as he has games.

He could work into standard leagues, but he'd need a couple big showings in a row to get there.
