Outlook Anthony Volpe

Anthony Volpe returns to the Yankees following a torrid Triple-A stretch, but enters in a part-time infield role.

After spending a month in Triple-A, Volpe was recalled as Jazz Chisholm Jr. heads to the injured list with a thumb issue. He tore up the minors with five homers over his final five games, but he returns to a second-place Yankees squad (83-62) with George Lombard Jr. cemented as the everyday shortstop. Volpe will instead have to carve out playing time in a roving utility capacity.

Volpe struggled to a .234 average with just one homer in 56 games prior to his demotion, mirroring our modest season projection of eight homers and a .225 mark. While his minor league power surge is encouraging, his track record indicates ongoing contact vulnerability against big-league pitching. Fantasy managers should treat his Triple-A outburst with skepticism until he proves his bat can consistently translate against MLB arms.

New York wraps up a homestand with four remaining games this week, starting favorably against Colorado's Ryan Feltner and his 6.04 ERA. However, the schedule toughens considerably over the weekend against the Mets, featuring Nolan McLean and his 3.06 ERA. Without guaranteed daily at-bats in a crowded infield, Volpe should remain on fantasy benches. Sit.

Outlook Thomas Saggese

Thomas Saggese provides immediate fantasy punch during an offensive hot streak

Saggese has been on an absolute tear, batting .444 with three home runs, 12 runs, and two steals over his last 14 days. With JJ Wetherholt sidelined and Masyn Winn nursing a thumb issue, Saggese has stepped into regular starts for a fourth-place Cardinals squad (72-75) looking to snap a three-game losing skid.

While his recent 1.290 OPS will naturally regress toward our projected .244 baseline, his offensive strides are real. Saggese has already swatted a career-best four homers across 43 games this year, proving his aggressive contact profile can deliver meaningful fantasy utility while he commands regular playing time.

St. Louis finishes the week with a favorable three-game home set against the White Sox. Saggese faces vulnerable right-hander Erick Fedde (4.07 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) and southpaw Anthony Kay (4.69 ERA, 1.41 WHIP) before closing against Sean Burke. Ride the hot bat while the opportunity is ripe. Start.
