The Kansas City Chiefs lead the Washington Commanders 14-7 at halftime in the second preseason game for both teams.
The Commanders opened the game on offense, as rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. got the start in the backfield. Quarterback Carson Wentz found wide receiver Terry McLaurin for one big play before Tress Way punted.
Kansas City and quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the field and led the Chiefs on a 12-play, 87-yard drive that ended with a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jody Fortson

Fullback Michael Burton got the game's first carry, but the next two both went to Edwards-Helaire. The team electing to start CEH can be viewed as reaffirmation of his status as the lead back in an otherwise murky Chiefs backfield. After Edwards-Helaire played the first drive alongside Patrick Mahomes, rookie Isaiah Pacheco got the entirety of the second alongside the starting quarterback, rushing four times for eight yards.

The Washington Commanders are on the road for Week 2 of the preseason with a trip to Kansas City to play the high-flying Chiefs. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said the Chiefs could play the entire first half, meaning the Commanders’ defense will get a good look at Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Meanwhile, Washington coach Ron Rivera said he’d “ideally†like to play his starters for a half; however, injuries could make that impossible. The Commanders have injuries to their top four tight ends and top three guards. Most of the injuries aren’t serious and are of the soft-tissue variety, but the injuries have created a lot of shuffling for Washington recently
