A look at Saturday's probable pitchers who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

Let’s jump right into Saturday’s probable starters (according to MLB.com) who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups, creating streaming value. Most stats and rankings are from ESPN.

Slade Cecconi, Arizona Diamondbacks @ Seattle Mariners

While the Mariners flounder early in the season, opposing pitchers continue getting chances at strong outings. The team has holes around superstar Julio Rodriguez that holds back the entire lineup.

Cecconi’s season debut was on Sunday, when he gave up just two runs in six innings to pick up the win against the Giants. He only struck out three batters, but Cecconi didn’t walk anyone in that game.

He has only 33 big league innings, but Cecconi has been adequate so far. He is a mid-level streamer in this one. Cecconi hasn’t struck guys out, but his results have been average, meaning he has value against poor lineups.

Cole Irvin, Baltimore Orioles vs. Oakland Athletics

Irvin has had mixed results in 2024, but he’s coming off a gem in his last start, allowing no runs in 7.2 innings against Kansas City. The Royals have been good on offense through the first month, but Oakland is on the opposite side of that coin.

Still sporting one of the lowest payrolls in all of sports, Oakland has a team bereft of talent without much hope of improving. Irvin is a mid-level streamer here. He doesn’t strike out a lot of batters, which caps his ceiling a bit, but the matchup is too good to pass up.

Mitchell Parker, Washington Nationals @ Miami Marlins

Edward Cabrera, Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals

We’ll finish up with two games that each have two pitchers meeting our streaming criteria due to poor lineups. The Marlins and Nationals are both missing talent at multiple spots, meaning their few high-level players can’t excel the same way. Opposing pitchers are often happy to see either of these lineups.

Parker has made two starts in his career (both this year) and totaled 12 strikeouts in 12 innings, allowing only two runs and not walking any batters. That’s the stuff dreams are made of fellow baseball fans. With a good matchup and his run of success, Parker is a high-level streamer in his third career start.

Cabrera is owned in enough leagues that he might not qualify as a true streamer, but the results have been so good that it’s worth pointing him out. In two starts, Cabrera has struck out 17 batters in 11 innings and allowed just four runs.

He has always walked too many guys, but Cabrera has limited that number in 2024. At the rate he strikes out batters, Cabrera is another high-level streamer who should be active in every league.

Chris Paddack, Minnesota Twins @ Los Angeles Angels

Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels vs. Minnesota Twins

Two more teams facing each other and presenting good matchups, the Angels and Twins have both sported below-average offenses in 2024 to different degrees. While Minnesota has seen a team-wide struggle, Mike Trout has been on fire for LA, showing his old form. Outside of the former MVP, though, there’s not much to like in the Angels’ lineup.

Paddack has struck out a batter per inning in his career while limiting walks to about half the league average. That has resulted in only average results, but there are a lot worse ways to go when looking for fantasy performers. Paddack is a mid-level streamer in this one.

Soriano doesn’t have the same track record as Paddack but shares his knack for strikeouts. In fact, Soriano blew away Paddack’s strikeout rate last year, but he worked exclusively as a reliever in 42 innings. His numbers have fallen a bit when working as a starter, but he’s still striking out more than a batter per inning.

Walks are the biggest problem, as Soriano has walked guys about 50% more than average over both of his seasons. The strikeouts will be there, which is a big deal, but Soriano’s lack of control also caps his expectations. He is another mid-level streamer worthy of a spot in your lineup.
