Shawn Armstrong | Fantasy Outlook

Armstrong provides steady holds but lacks the strikeouts and save equity for shallow leagues

Shawn Armstrong has been highly active in the Cleveland bullpen, securing five holds over his last six appearances despite giving up a 3.46 ERA over that 5.2-inning stretch. He remains a key setup option for the second-place Guardians, who currently hold a 37-33 record and are looking to snap a tough four-game losing streak. With key bullpen injuries and absences hitting the roster, Armstrong continues to slot in as a primary late-inning bridge to closer Cade Smith.

His 2.43 ERA over the last 30 days is stellar, but a lack of strikeouts lately suggests some regression is on the horizon. Our models project a more modest 3.78 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 69.0 innings for the season, which aligns closely with his career norms. Given his microscopic strikeout rate over the last fortnight, his recent run of clean appearances is likely a bit of a fluke, making him a ratio risk if his walks spike.

Looking at the remaining schedule, Cleveland has a three-game home series against Detroit over the weekend. While the matchups are generally favorable, including a date with Jack Flaherty and his 5.52 ERA, Armstrong's lack of save opportunities limits his fantasy upside.
